Summary: Jensen lives in a pious fishing village where he almost drowned when he was thirteen. Now in his twenties, he remains terrified of the sea. When there is a string of bad weather and worse fishing, the villagers blame Jensen for not returning to the Sea God, J'Red, as tradition commands, so they leave him near the sea as an offering. But Jared isn't anything like Jensen expected, especially once he shows his true form...

Additional notes: I was SO excited to illustrate this piece because, hel~lo tentacles! But also because it's full of great imagery! After reading the first draft I immediately started sketching out ideas for Jared. I now know a lot more about squid anatomy than I ever thought I would LOL. But it was a lot of fun coming up with different ideas! For the final piece, I was inspired to do it in a sort of old-fashioned storybook illustration, because I felt that the fic built up the mythology so well, and had some fairy-tale elements to it as well.
Credits: Texture from Bittbox, and I used lots of different pictures of squid and people swimming for reference.
