1) Bidding for
help_japan and help_japan are now open. My offering is here if anyone would like some fanart or fic illustrations/coverart.

2) Thanks to cjoelle for the help Japan v-gift! ♥

3) I watched 127 Hours. And I don't think this is all that spoilery, since the ending is pretty well-known, but I'll put it under a cut anyways. Usually I can handle gore in film/TV/video games, but I could not watch the climactic scene. It made me start to feel nauseous and I had to watch through my fingers. I totally understand now why some people fainted, because it really is that intense. And the music was perfectly timed with him cutting through the nerves, and my arm is still all tingly from thinking about it.

Overall it was better than I thought it'd be though. I was thinking that it could be kind of boring what with him being stuck in the canyon for the whole movie, but the pacing was good and kept me from being bored. The part with Scooby-Doo was freaky though. And I had the theme song stuck in my head for a while after =_=
Summary: better than I thought it'd be, some good music, and James Franco was not as annoying as I thought he would be.

4a) Being Human series 3 finale spoilers and general thoughts. IT IS SUCH A SHAME THAT MORE PEOPLE AREN'T WATCHING THIS SERIES. The thing I love about shorter series like Being Human and Misfits is that it really is a serial. I mean, it's not hard to get caught up if you start watching in the middle, but knowing all the backstory adds a lot more to the viewing. Unlike shows like SGA or SPN where the order you watch the episodes in doesn't have too much of an effect on character development*.

One thing I really love about this show is that Mitchell's redemption isn't found so easily by saving a few people. So I understand why the writers killed him off. He did do the right thing in the end. Mitchell might not have been able to make amends for all the people that he's killed, but at least he was able to clear the air with George. "I'm doing this because I love you", that line just broke my heart.

And I love how the show balances George/Annie/Mitchell's side plots (Nina not as much, because she is still a bit of an outsider, but she is very important to the central plot!) and it never turned into the Mitchell show (which TBH I was a bit worried it might do in the beginning), or the Annie/Mitchell show, or the George/Nina show.

4b) Being Human is one of those few shows where I feel I have no need to look for fic. I think this is more likely with serials because the canon is so tightly written. But also, it's just a very satisfying show. Sure it's not without it's faults (some convenient excuses and handwaving, especially when it comes to vampire lore and politics) but nothing huge IMO. And usually I find that it's hard to buy into romantic relationships as portrayed in canon (see: Bones, Merlin), or that the show writers try to show one relationship but end up implying something totally different (see: McShep). But in Being Human the relationships seem so natural. And it's nice that George and Mitchell can actually talk about their feelings which I think is a big part of why I don't slash them - there's no tension that can be turned into UST! There's tension from the plot, but when it comes to personal issues there's not so much of that "we're guys so we can't talk about our feelings cause that's gay/girly" thing. In TV that always comes across to me as slashy because, "why are they getting so defensive about the issues?"

Anyways, TL;DR, Being Human is awesome, and everyone should go watch it :D

*You could argue about SPN, but I think the Winchesters really haven't changed much from S1, and IMO Dean has actually come full circle.

5) Sorry I haven't been around much - midterms and internet troubles - but I hope everyone's doing well! *hugs*
