Google Instant and Page Previews don't seem to want to stay off in my browser, so for anyone who hates them as much as I do:

  1. Install the Hide Google Sidebar userscript.
  2. Edit the userscript, and where you see var code = "..." replace the code inside the quotation marks with #sfcnt {margin: 0 auto; width: 75%; margin-top: -10px;} #leftnav, .lsd, button.vspib, button.ws, .gbh {display:none;} #cnt { margin: 0 auto; margin-top: 1em;} #center_col {margin: 0 auto; margin-top: 1em; border:0px; width: 75%; } .s { max-width: 100%;} #foot { margin: 0 auto;} .tsf-p { position: static!important; width: 70%; padding-right: 0!important; }
  3. If you want, you can also add |http://www.google.*/extern_js/* to your list of blocked items in Adblock Plus, although that also disables the drop-down menus in Google's topbar (options for "More" searches and the settings menu) and it breaks the new image search too. If you scroll down to the bottom of the image search page before blocking the script, you can set the image search to the basic version. Or, just add &sout=1 to the url of your image searches.

The result:

And while we're on the topic, what are some of your favourit userscripts or add-ons?
For userscripts, I think Tumblr Dashboard Bookmark is an absolute lifesaver, and for add-ons, I use a mix of Tab Kit and Hide GUI Bars to stay organized. New Tab Homepage is just so I have a chance to actually use my prettied-up start page *g*
