Some of you may have seen my update on FB yesterday. It's now almost a full day since I brought in a stray. I just couldn't resist. I heard it crying Thursday morning on my way to work but didn't have time to look for it. I heard it and saw it on Friday morning, on the same spot, looking tiny and helpless. 6 hours later, on my way back, it was still there, all alone. It was a really hard decision cause we don't really need another cat and I knew our cats wouldn't be happy, but I just couldn't leave it there to die. It's very young, I think about 3 weeks old. Its walk is wobbly and funny, his eyes are blue and his voice is loud and insistent. He keeps following us around, we're afraid we'll step on him. His tail is broken. He likes cream but isn't so keen on the kitten milk I bought today, I hope we can get him to drink some. He's too young for solid food. We have no experience with kittens that young, it's kind of terrifying.
Our cats hate it. Hate him. There was a lot of hissing yesterday, a lot of backing away from him as he's a ticking bomb, when he's even smaller than my fist. No, our cats are not pleased and they let us know. Bobby was growling at the poor thing when it hid under the bed last night. He just wants company, he wants friends. They want things to go back to the way they were. I don't blame them. The last thing I want to do is make their lives miserable, especially Bobby. She still hasn't gotten over the shock of having to live with Killy and it's been 5 years. Our decision was to help the kitten through the first weeks, because it wouldn't survive out in the street. We'll see how things go. If our cats don't accept him, then we'll have to try finding him a new home -extremely difficult, not many people like pets here- or put him out on the street again. We're trying hard not to bond but it's not easy. It will break my heart but I know a few people who feed strays on a regular basis so there are a couple of spots that would be good for him, if it came to that.
I don't know. Three cats, ugh. But the little fuzzball is adorable. We'll see what happens.
