"I gave to him, I then received from him - but the two were not connected. I gave without expecting to receive and I received without feeling myself indebted." The two can never be smultaneous: giving is an incomplete act, there must always be a receiver to complete it and make it whole, so that none can ever give and receive at the same time. More, - to establish a connection between the two is to turn the action into an exchange. - And then you find yourself with a fistful of I-owe-yous or a balance that's in the red and realise all this time you've just been bargaining with your fingers tightly clasped and a niggardly grimace on your face.
- To give out of abundance and not out of poverty!
