10 films of 2007

If last year was the year of the documentaries for me (The Ister and When the Levees Break both ranking high on my top 10) this year is the year of duos with 3 of 10 films coming from two person teams (No Country, Europa, and Darkness). While I was less than enthusiastic about Battle in Heaven, I'd be very surprised if Silent Light ( Read more... )

No arguments here, and I'm glad ZODIAC showed up somewhere on your list. I've been wanting to revisit that, perhaps in the DVD "director's cut" (where Fincher adds a montage that equates the passing of time through the changing fashions/music of the late 60s/early 70s ( ... )

I hear you on just excited for Hellman to be back... although not an entirely successful return to form, perhaps, it means that there might still be a good film in him...
I'm pretty sure you'd love Control and Michael Clayton (and though I can never entirely predict Chance's taste, I'm pretty sure he'd love Control). Michael Clayton is a lot like the political paranoid thrillers of the 70s (e.g. Z, etc.). I had forgotten the two first Bournes and I bet it would've been even better had I done the marathon thing like you're planning. That said, I came in with only a wikipedia entry on the two first Bournes to jog my memory and it surprised me with being probably the best action movie I have ever seen!

haven't seen Bug yet...I read some good things about it -- from you and Dan -- I'll have to rent it one of these days. I also read Chance's review of it lately, so I'll have to just check it out and see where I stand.

tell me what you think of Europa... I haven't checked the youtube one, but I originally found it on google video.

oh and on I know who killed me... no amount of reading it as a secret return-to-giallo as I had originally attempted nor even lindsay lohan could sneak it into my top 10 (nor 20... nor 30, if I had seen that many movies from this year!) still, I couldn't not see it in theatres!
