The Good WIfe
Before apparating to the outskirts of London, Albus once more profusely thanked the merman who had freed him.
He didn't dare apparate to Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley - or even to London proper for fear of being recognized. Discreetly casting a spell to dry his hair and robes, he approached a passerby.
“Could I trouble you to tell me today's date?”
“Oh dear.” Albus murmured as the young woman gave him the date and in doing so confirmed his worst fears.
At something of a loss as to what to do Albus looked around. Spying a florist shop across the street, he made his way in that direction.
The bell above the shop door announced his presence to the proprietor. Approaching from the back of his shop, the muggle called out. “The roses are only twenty pounds a dozen!”
“They smell heavenly, but I think I need something a little more.” Albus admitted.
“I have some potted orchids.”
“Something more.”
“What did you do?” the florist asked good-humoredly. “How badly did you screw up?”
“I missed a wedding.”
Trying to gauge how big the arrangement would need to be, the florist asked. “How close were you to the bride and groom?”
“I was the groom.”
The florist stared at him, saying nothing at first. Finally, despite the loss of business, he admitted. “That's more of a jewelery offense. Real estate even.”
