'[inaudible] ... Rilo Kiley show.'
'Not a good show, man.'

The night started off like any other, with a bit of hilarious eavesdropping of a couple of guys talking about different live shows they've seen, or were interested in seeing. Shamelessly, I couldn't disagree. Rilo puts on a good show, no doubt, but their set list drags on and on to eventual boredom, i.e. it's pretty much the same songs every show. And is it really eavesdropping when you're standing a foot a way in public?

We were shuffled in the venue quickly. Somehow, I always feel less special about not getting one of the coveted wrist bands that yells, "Hey, I'm totally old enough to drink." Not that I'd ever know what to even order; 'Uh, barkeep, le..m...onade?'

The booze-less night was all made up for as I got a spot front and left. There was a little bit of awkwardness during the wait as some guy in a corner sang some barely decipherable tunes. Regardless, people applauded just because. Later the opening band - The Berg sans Nipple - came on stage ready to drum. It was, quite literally, a night of amazing French musicians. The Berg did not disappoint, and put on a great, albeit somewhat 'weird' show. It's just their style, and it works. They're on Team Love Records, home of Tilly & the Wall and Jenny Lewis' debut solo album, which is some kind of commentary.

Afterwards, Anthony Gonzales stepped onto the stage, nonchalant and calm like a god among men. I wouldn't doubt if he were. The main show began with Anthony slipping off his scarf and flip flops, going barefoot for the rest of the night. The energy was viral, and clearly emanating from the entire band with an air of amazing, and a heart pounding sound that could seemingly make the human soul soar to some nirvana state. The screams of, "We love you, Morgan!" added a touch of cute to it all after every song, and a thumbs up from Anthony, too, made it perfect.

I'm just disappointed there was no Car Chase Terror! and the t-shirts got held up by customs. I'm not complaining, though. It was a great night.
