I'm not here to be a crusader against the sins of carbs and etc.
First and foremost, I know that each person is different. With a different genetic make up, metabolism and dietary needs.
So with that out of the way, lemme say that I know my body. And it likes carbs. It likes carbs a lot.
I didn't pick low carb just randomly. I have a younger brother (two actually, but that's besides the point) who was told to lose some weight by his doctor. He went on a low to no carb eating plan and pounds started dropping off. My husband has also lost a significant amount of poundage following the same idea. Mind you, to begin with, I wasn't really helping. Not with things like casseroles and lasagnas on the menu. But between monitoring his carbs and doing extra work around the new house, he's lost over 20 pounds. And I have to say it, I'm impressed.
OK yes I know they are male and my female DNA is gonna throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing. I saw a statistic today that said your hips don't stop growing wider until you're in your 80's. Excuse me? No. I can't live like that. My hips are wide enough. Now. Stop. Done.
Well I'm not getting any younger and to be honest I haven't done too much scrutiny of my own foods. Oh sure I try to eat balanced meals, but sometimes that means a salad followed by Reeces'Peanut Butter Cups. Sorta balanced right? So I'm embarking on this low carb thing to try and develop new habits before the old ones kill me. Honestly, I LOVE sugary coffees with all of those flavored creamers. YUM! And baking. I LOVE baking! Especially when the weather turns crisp and it gets closer to the holidays.
Now it's not that I can't have those things anymore. It's just that I shouldn't have them as much. I'm going LOW carb. Not NO carb. Ain't no way this girl is going no carb so we can pull that plug right now.
I'll admit that I'm craving french fries to go with my steak but I'll live. I'll also admit that I really want to bake brownies. But again, I'll live. Tonight's dinner isn't so shaggy. Grilled steak, grilled cherry tomatoes, sauteed baby bok choy and sauteed mushrooms. Low carb isn't so bad at the moment!
