Auditions

Last week (Monday-Sunday) I went on six auditions.  They all went well, but the two yesterday were fantastic.  The first one was for a student film about Ambrose Bierce.  This was down at LMU.  The writer/director and I ended up talking for a long time - apparently I was the only actor he'd called in who'd actually heard of Ambrose Bierce, let alone read any of his work.  So that was pretty cool.  I didn't have any lines... Just had to do a monologue of my choice and take direction.  Pretty nifty.

The second audition was for an NYFA grad student film about a neurotic, filthy rich, agoraphobic woman who falls in love with the grocer who delivers her food every day.  The first time I read it, the writer/director, Leigh, smiled and leaned forward in her chair, and said, "I have to applaud you for finding the humor in the scene.  It's supposed to be a dark comedy, and everyone's reading it like a straight drama."  She looked at the guy who was running the camera (Courtney) and he looked at her and they both had a moment of  "yeah, she understands the script", which was pretty cool for me to watch :)

Haven't heard anything about either project, but both of them interest me very much.  It's kind of difficult to find student films to go out for that aren't completely ridiculous.  We'll see.  If anything else, all these auditions are helping me get REALLY comfortable with the process.
