Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Summary: Three years after the settlement of New Caprica.

Notes: The story just sort of turned into a good AU ramble. Thanks to newnumbertwo for recommending I don't cut off the second half, and to citiesofcolor for keeping me company while I finished it, and telling me the last line wasn't absolute crap.

That ending was gorgeous! Your betas were so right to tell you to leave it. :-)

This seems like a very realistic view of New Caprica another year down the line. Well done!

Rumor was that the Beast was the only thing that could support the younger Adama's weight.

Tom/Tory is... certainly interesting. I love that she's jealous of his connection with Laura.

It was originally supposed to be Zarek/Gaeta, but when Tory walked through the door with him my brain just went 'nope, they're dating'.

I'd kinda love to know how that relationship came about... :P In my headcanon, they usually dislike each other (or Tory does, anyway).

Laura knew Tory wouldn't want to, or should, spend the rest of her life in a school tent helping her keep an eye on a kidnapped baby. She pushed Tory to start lobbying as well as liaising between the workers and the government. When something she championed got far enough into the system, Tom was the one she interacted with. They were very antagonistic with one another, and fell into an amicable frenemy debaters relationship about law and politics.

When Tom started distancing himself from Baltar's policies during the flooding, he started going to her for help in reaching the people. They had a few post-work meeting sexcapades before they decided to try dating.

Their relationship is a fairly young one in this story, and I think both of them view it as a very engaging challenge. They also secretly enjoy one another's company, though everyone knows it.

Though Tory does still work part time in the schools, she spends most of her time helping civilian groups get their bills seen by the government.

So um.. a bunch of random back story
