Christchurch earthquake

My thoughts are very much with people in Christchurch in the aftermath of the terrible earthquake yesterday. I was particularly relieved to hear this morning that our very own Helen Lowe is apparently safe and well, along with her partner. I have no further details, however, and am waiting anxiously to hear more news. It is heartbreaking to think of the loss of life, stress and damage/destruction to homes suffered by the people in the region, especially as this the second major earthquake in six months (and far worse in its effects than the first.)

In these circumstances I hope you’ll forgive me if I quietly wrap up the Writing Strong Women series with Blake’s wonderful post. I imagine there are many such stories unfolding in Christchurch at the moment.

Meanwhile, Cassie Hart is organising a fundraising anthology of short stories to benefit victims of the earthquake. I’m honoured to be contributing a piece. Proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross; it should be a fun and upbeat anthology, too.
