this is probably the first time i'm updating w/o sarah yelling at me. (haha sarah!!) but here's why...
i just thought this was funny. live journals are kind of a cool thing to do, yet i'm such a nerd. check it:
yesterday for lack of any better way to procrastinate...
actually, no. i was attempting to look up "pervasive" in the dictionary so i was sure i was using it right. (nerdy enough? it only gets worse.)
anyway, i was trying to get to P-E-R in the OAD (not the OED as i had previously thought) and i come across the word "majuscule" and i was like, hey, that's cool. it means a large letter, capital, or uncial. and "majuscular" is the adj for it.
then came "malediction" --a curse. from mal=bad + diction=word
malefic! harmful, baleful (of magical arts, etc.)
i think this was the point where i got a piece of paper and--yes, a pencil, the writing utensil i so loathe--and began making my list. here it is (i stopped when i got to the bottom of a page on my paper)

malinger - to pretend to be ill in order to avoid doing work (my dad uses this one in court when people are trying to plead insanity. the noun is "malingerer" which is equally awesome.)
malleable - able to be hammeredor pressed into shape, easy to influence, adaptable
mañana - tomorrow, as a symbol of easygoing PROCRASTINATION in spanish-speaking countries
manqué - that might have been but is not, not fulfilled (a beethoven manqué=an unsuccessful composer)
manumit - to set free (manumission)
marauding (adj) - going about in search of plunder or prey (which i used in my qtr project)
martinet - a person who demands strict obedience
maudlin - sentimental in a silly or tearful way, especially from drunkenness
maunder - to talk in a rambling way
mavin (inf) - a connoiseur or expert
melee - a confused fight or muddle
meliorate - to improve
melliflous - sweet sounding
meretriclous - showily attractive but cheap or insincere
then i go back and look up "uncial" bc i didn't know it... turns out it's pronounced "un-shial" or "un-shal" and it means "of or written with large rounded unjoined letters used in manuscripts of the 4th-8th centuries, from which modern capital letters are largely derived" (also a noun)
then my mom gave me this INCREDIBLY AWESOME word - "evince" (to indicate, to show that one has [a quality])
then today, i was suddenly inspired to plunk out "peces en el rio" on the piano, which i did, then i transposed it into a different key and time signature. then i looked up--yes, looked up--the lyrics. turns out the song is abuot the Virgin washing diapers or something. lyrics, copy/pasted
