What Time Is It?

Feb 21, 2013 00:42

.....it's SPORKING TIME! And for today's entry, I bring you a story from one of my latest newfound fandoms, 'Adventure Time' [which I see does not have a tag here. Is this the very first offering?]

I know the series is pretty random and crazy as is, but even then, it still has a list of set rules and canon. And, IMO, these two [yes, TWO] OCs are totally warping it. This story is set in the land of Aaa, with the gender-bent versions of all the characters.

Story or Series Title: Adventure Girls
Fandom: Adventure Time With Finn and Jake
CulpritAuthor's Name: PurplePearlVoice35

Full Name(s), plus titles if any: Claire and Amber
Full Species: Self-Inserts, Superpowered/Perfect Sues, Rare Species [they're both humans, and seeing as in 'AT' Finn/Fionna is supposed to be the only human...]
Hair Color: [before entering Aaa] Claire: "Dark chocolate brown"
Amber: "Waist length brunette hair"
[after entering Aaa] Claire: "Her hair became spiky toward the bottom and the tips were silver." and "My dark chocolate brown hair had been cut to my chin, spiked, and the tips were silver!"
Amber: "Her brunette hair was below her breast and was straight."
Eye Color: Claire: Not mentioned, as far as I can see [there are only two chapters so far].
Amber: Ditto.
Unusual Markings/Colorations: Do outfits count? When the duo are sent to Aaa, their appearances and clothes change. Claire: "She now wore a pine green, short sleeved hoodie, a pine green skirt, silver leggings, and pine green boot with silver laces that reached her knees." and "The hem of her sleeves, hoodie, and boots were also silver." and "My hoodie, shorts, and boots her pine green, but the hems of the hoodie and boots, laces, and leggings were a shiny silvery white."
Amber: "Her outfit changed into a black dress with blue stripes that went below her knees, black gloves, and black shoes." and "I turned to see Amber in a black dress with blue stripes that went to mid calves, black gloves, and black shoes." Yes, their outfits are described multiple times over the course of two relatively short chapters.
Special Possessions (if any): Claire: An electric blue bass that seems to disappear after being mentioned briefly during the tranformation/transport sequence. A Crystal Sword, like Fionna's, once she arrives in Aaa.
Amber: A bow and arrow set that, surprise surprise, she instantly knows how to use.

Annoying Origin: They're RW girls who get warped into their fave show, 'Adventure Time', after making a wish upon a star at a painfully depicted slumber party.
Annoying Connections to Canon Characters: Well, they're both human, like Fionna, thus rendering her status as THE ONLY HUMAN moot. Also, they're most likely going to be super-speshul-awsum adventurers, like Fionna. Noticing a trend here? Also, they're going to be paired up with Prince Gumball and Marshall Lee. [I'm not even going to touch that.]
Annoying Special Abilities: Even though they've never fought a day in their lives, as soon as they're transported to Aaa they instantly have just as much skill and experience as Fionna and Cake.
Other Annoying Traits: Being automatically accepted by all the characters, instead of questioned over the fact that they're human, something which is a rarity in this world. Are ace at whatever tasks come their way, which include: fighting, burping the alphabet, setting up a DJ system, spinning records, playing music, and singing. Lots and lots of singing, with copy-pasted lyrics from Cascada.

Please include a small sample of the worst of this story:

You asked for it, you got it. Hope my sporking is up to par here...it's been awhile. 'cracks knuckles' From this point on, my spork will be in blue and bold. Hopefully, this won't hurt your eyes, seeing as LJ's changed the viewing format with cuts since the last time I posted...

Chapter One!

"What time is it?" I asked my friend, Amber. Here it comes...

"ADVENTURE TIME!" she cried, punching her fist in the air. So clever. I laughed and sighed. So are you happy or sad over this? My best friend Amber was staying the night with me at my house for another Adventure Time party. So far, we danced to Just Dance 4, ate a bunch of junk food, and acted out some of the lines from the characters. Now we were crashing in my room, me on my bed and Amber on the floor, drawing our characters. There's nothing wrong with sleepovers. But this just rubs me the wrong way: a depiction of wannabe manic pixie dreamgirls who think they're so awesome for being so hyper and random. It works in 'AT', because the characters are likable and even then, there's set guidelines as to how much randomness takes place at any given time. Here, it just makes me roll my eyes.

"You know, Amber, we still have one more thing to due tonight," I said.  Wrong word, it's 'do'. Amber looked up from her drawing and raised an eyebrow.

"What?" she asked.

"We have still have Truth or Dare," I said. I sat up and flicked a strand of my dark chocolate brown over my shoulder. Amber's eyes widened and she pumped the air. Lots of air punching...what did the poor oxygen ever do to you? And also, UGH. T&D doesn't work. It never works. In canon, sure. But this isn't even a good AU.

"Okay, Amber, Truth or Dare?" I asked. Amber thought for a moment and shrugged. "Truth."

I grinned. "Who in the land of Aaa do you have crush on?" I asked. We liked the Ooo characters, but after we saw "Fiona and Cake" episode, we fell in love! Two 'n's in this particular spelling of Fionna. Plus, fangirling alert! I don't come to read 'AT' fic about your OCs gushing over how cute the male versions of canon characters are. I knew stuff like this would happen as soon as I saw the episode for myself. And what, female leads aren't cool enough? [I would kill for a girl OC gushing over female leads, for once...it would make a nice change.]

"Do I have to?" Amber moaned. I nodded. She sighed.

"I really like... Prince Gumball," she said, stuffing her face into a pillow. I squealed. "Really? Not my type of guy, but I guess he would be okay."

"Okay, Claire, T or D?" Amber asked. "T." I replied. It's impossible to find a good dare at an Adventure Time party. Really? I would think that the series itself would provide lots of ideas, seeing as they featured the game in the first freaking episode...

"Who do you like in Aaa?" Amber asked with an evil grin. I knew it. My crush would send any girl squealing for joy and start swooning.

I took a deep breath and said "I like...Marshal Lee!" I said, grabbing my pillow and squealing, Amber rolled her eyes.

"I knew it. I don't get how he only appeared in 'Fiona and Cake' for 10 seconds and didn't say anything, and he already has like hundreds of fan-girls swooning over him," she pointed out. I shrugged. That...actually makes a bit of sense. But just a bit. It may help that he's the swapped version of Marceline though, who has already been shown to be quite the badass herself.

"It's not just his looks that I like. We both share a love for music," I said, popping in a CD into the Karaoke Machine. I tossed Amber a mic and I stood. (Claire, Amber, Both)
Skipping because it's just song lyrics, and that's no fun to spork.

Chapter Two!

[Skipping the A/N, even though it's just as irritating as the fic, and could prolly do with a spork of its own. I'll leave that one to you, dear readers, if you feel like actually finding this tale for yourselves.]

"We should head out," I said. Amber nodded and we headed north. We picked a few apples and sat down to rest. Walking for like another hour or so, we head in a valley. Not far away was... Fiona and Cake's Treehouse! Again with the missing n. And this is where it really gets frustrating. We looked at each other and squealed, holding each others arms. I imagine that their arms have been removed, which makes this mental image rather...tricky. How are they holding them? With their feet? Their teeth? Then we heard yelling. Because they'd just dismembered themselves, and that's usually a shocking thing to behold. We turned and ran into the direction of the yells, toward the Treehouse. Then we some them. Some them...? What?

Fionna and Cake were fighting some kind of giant snake with horns and saber tooth cat fangs. It was black with a red knife like tail at the end. Its eyes were neon green and its teeth were dagger like and purple. It also had small red gems going down its back. What the...? Even the monster sounds like a MS.

Amber pulled my arm and dragged me so that we were only 20 feet away from the snake and the heroines. Amber pulled out an arrow and fired at a gem. Bulls-eye! Of course. The snake yelled in pain and turned to face us. It hissed and slithered our way. This gave Fionna the chance to leap onto the snake's back and start stabbing the gems. The snake bucked her off and Cake caught her.

"Hey! Freak-a-zoid! Over here!" I called, waving my arms like a crazy person. LIKE a crazy person? I think it's pretty much been determined that both you and your SI friend are indeed loco in the coco. The snake turned, hissing, and charged. Wait for it... wait for it...NOW! I leaped up high above the snake, just as its fangs got stuck in the ground, took out my Crystal Sword, and stabbed a larger gem on the snakes head. The snake let out a cry in pain and turned to ash. OF COURSE. Because watching cartoons all day is everything you need to become a grade-A hero nowadays, don'cha know?

Amber ran over and grabbed her arrow, which was stuck in the ground. Ha. Fionna and Cake ran over. "Hey, thanks for saving our behinds back there," Fionna says. I shrugged.

"No problem. I'm Claire," I say, gesturing to myself. Then I pointed to Amber. "This Amber, my best friend." Amber nodded and said "Sup'".

"I'm Fionna and this is Cake," Fionna says.

"You girls must be tired. Come on inside," Cake says. The girls lead us inside and into the living room. Fionna tossed us cherry sodas and sat down. I nodded a silent thanks.

"So...where are you ladies from?" Cake asked, taking a bite out of some cat nip. Amber and I looked at each other. "We're from... a different world," I say turning back to the heroines. There eyes went as wide as saucers. Wrong word, it's 'their'.

"Really? So that means... you guys are human!" Fionna cried out in joy. I nodded. I forgot that Fionna is the only human here. How do you forget such a pivotal plot point? It's not like it hasn't been brought up in canon more than once. Also, how do they know so quickly that they're human? They could be shape-changers, for all they know. And I know that the leads aren't exactly perfect at detecting danger, but still. TWO new characters, with super-fighting skills, who just showed up outta nowhere? IDK if in this universe, Fionna and Cake have been through swapped versions of what happened to Finn and Jake, but if so, I'd imagine that they would be just a touch wary? For crying out loud, the bear! THE BEAR! The bear and the Enchiridion!

That's it. Sorry my spork was kinda fail. It's late, and there weren't many good lines to this fic that I could poke fun at. Most of it is just headache-inducing, and canon bending. In the bad way. Just...I don't really think that a fandom like 'AT' really needs super-sparkly SI heroes who constantly act like they're on a sugar high. I mean, I'm trying to imagine these characters as drawn in the animation style, and it...it makes me frown. It doesn't match. Maybe I'm just being overly-sensitive, but I like my new fandom just the way it is. Maybe I'm giving the characters a bit too much credit? Maybe they wouldn't care if two newcomers showed up. But I can only imagine what other horrors lie in store now that the next gender-bend episode has come out...

Later, everyone.
