[I am

[and listening to "David Duchovny, Why Won't You Love Me" by Bree Sharp]
Okay. Let's try a coherent entry about XF2, hm?
Now, X-Files. See, thing is: while seaQuest was my first crush, the X-Files was my first love. First time I was really truly in love with a fandom, with such a purity and devotion that I feel sometimes is restricted to teenage girls. I started watching when I was 14, and together with my best school mate we talked about the show for hours at a time. Another friend once complained that for six days a week we'd talk about the last episode, and on the seventh day we'd talk about what we'd heard about the next one. I still have at least 20 books, a few comics, a huge collection of news articles, I was a subscriber of the official mag and the unofficial mag... And yes, Mulder and Scully. I suppose somewhere along the line you lose that sort of adoration as a part of growing up. Or you probably should. Although, to be honest, I still want the Rolling Stone cover as a poster. But I digress. I remember watching the first movie in the theater - first the midnight premiere. Every seat filled, and we had sunflowers and little inflatable plastic aliens. Susanne and me made a running commentary that had the people around us laugh as well (my favourite bit will always be when one of the conspirators says they have to take away the one thing Mulder can't live without, and Susanne loudly gasped: "Oh no, not his cell phone!!"). So, just to make sure you know how much I love those two bloody fictional characters.
Personally, if you want to watch this movie and haven't yet, don't read my entry. Don't read the articles, don't watch teasers. There are certain facts you find out during the movie that are much better if you are unprepared for them.
So. Was the movie good? Uhm. As a fan, I loved it. It was total fanservice - the pencils stuck in the ceiling, still the same type of car, Mulder's fishies, old names, old arguments... And the MSR. DUDE, the MSR. But then, I didn't care for the story. I would have watched them watch TV for two hours. So, it was clichèd (pedo priests, evil russian organ thieves, abused ministrants falling in love and getting Married In Massachussetts, Scully having a crisis of faith, plucky young agent, sceptic partner of plucky young agent...), but did anyone expect different? I mean, really? It wasn't very classy or bright, but it would have made a good episode I think. Movie - hm. Not bad, but like I said, I didn't watch this movie for the plot, I watched it for the fanservice. And that we got. Oh boy, did we ever get that.
I love the MS relationship. I love that it's so understated and honest and real. They don't need big mushy scenes, they simply are together. My inner 14 year old fangirl won't stop eating her hand for weeks because of the sheer beauty of them having a house together and a real, normal life. Scully works at the local christian hospital, while Mulder apparently spends his days cutting weird articles out of the newspaper and doing the shopping. And then they sleep cuddled up to each other, after trying out stuff from the sex book on Scully's night table. And Mulder scratches her face with his beard. And And And *breaks* And Scully loves this life so much that she doesn't want to go back, doesn't want to lose her normal life with Mulder to the X-Files style. And he knows that, he just sulked a bit. Did anyone take that argument seriously? She'd never leave him, and he'd never let her. It was just code for "I'm staying at my mother's till you've apologized" in MS style.
I am glad plucky agent girl died. She was flirting with Scully's man. That she died right after calling him Fox - well. It made me happy, I admit it.
- Hm. I was waiting how long it would take for there to be wank about this movie being anti-gay, and lo, it's going full throttle at imdb. Snnch. Because homosexual people can never be evil. Or slightly misguided. Or doing anything to keep their SO alive.
SKINNER. I sort of mushed up when he appeared. I love him so much, and I didn't know he would turn up (another thing I guess works better as a surprise), and god, he still rocks so hard. He's like their daddy, or at least older brother, and the chemistry is still formidable. The way he helped Scully, the way he held Mulder... Obviously he comes over for dinner once a month. As he should.
On that note - Mulder, out of the loop much? That's not how you take on the bad guys. Thank god for Skinner, who still has it.
And I stay by my word, BEST ENDING EVER. If you'd told me, I wouldn't have believed it.
