Intermission for the Hunger Games double feature. Elliot is really excited. I'm just glad it's for a good movie. Or what should be a good movie. Please don't let them have screwed this up.

That will be the only movie I see in a theatre this year, but I'm thinking the following (two?) episodes will be better, or at least I hope so.

I don't like when the ending of the movie ties nothing up because a sequel is clearly coming but, other than that, they haven't screwed anything up too badly.

Of the three books, this chapter was my least favourite - it was book one again, some more. I'm looking very forward to seeing what they do visually with book three.

As I read them, I found the writing wasn't the greatest ever, but I figured they would make great movies. I don't think I would have been as interested in seeing all of them if they hadn't cast Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role.

The three books fall into the same category as the Harry Potter series for me - weak and shallow writing but still enjoyable to read. By the third book, it was very clear she was writing with a movie in mind.

Jennifer Lawrence is fantastic in these movies. I'm glad her performance is so good because I feel a little less guilty spending the slow moments in the movie thinking "those lips."

I think I threw in the towel on Harry Potter after book two. I bought every one in the series for Justin who was at one point reading only because he felt as though he was obligated to find out how it all ended. I don't know how much pleasure he was deriving at that point because by the time it was all over, he was late into high school and reading 'heavier' literature.

Anyway! The other day I asked him if he had read The Hunger Games books, because we had discussed them about a year ago. He said he had just been reading Hunter S. Thompson and picked up The Hunger Games and said, 'I just can't with this woman!' because Thompson's mastery was still too fresh in his mind. Which, yeah, I get that.

Also, I just love every little thing about Jennifer Lawrence. Her Letterman interview about the movies was endearing. She's a wonderfully refreshing down to earth role model for young girls (even though I think she may have been caught on camera smoking weed?) in my opinion.
