Would I have joined if the master f-lock had been in place? Then - probably not as it would have put me off and I was too nervous about internet groups to ask. Now - since my confidence has grown, very largely as a result of the gentle coaxing and persistent help of my_cnnr and determined coaching of my sister - it would be a dfferent story. But then.... I mention all this because my guess is there are still other internt dimwits like me out there....
Do I want MRF to go to Dreamwidth? This is a difficult question for me as I have very mixed feelings. I am pretty comfortabe at LJ. After I became confident with the ether (about a year later) I started looking, got a paid account (when I wanted to post some pictures), and have gradually joined a few more LJ groups. None of those is planning to move. In 2008, I became a member of a couple of yahoo groups; I find I don't like yahoo as much and participate less in those groups partly as a result of that (although partly also because of content). All that tells me to stay where I am. Nothing in my personal journal is f-locked and it would not negatively affect me if any were cross-posted to Facebook or Twitter. However, I loathe Facebook (very much because of my job) and I loathe the way LJ has gone about this. So my principles tell me to vote with my feet and maybe LJ will learn the error of its ways if its members go. (There is a strong streak of social radicalism in my makeup and the highhandedness of LJ gets it going).
As for moving MRF? The thought of moving the community lock-stock-and-barrel fills me with dismay because of the work involved (none of which I could help with, as I am such a dunce at technical things). I struggle to see the sense in having half the community here and everything new over there; I would want it all in one place if possible (and just a sign left here telling people where to find us). I find when I read new posts, they can make me want to dip into past discussions of fic and that would be harder if a move to Dreamwidth were partial. I certainly want the range (don't know any other way of putting that!) of what we have had up to now on the LJ community to continue in the longer-term.
Would I move to DW if MRF does? Definitely. This is my favourite community, talking about one of my much loved authors, and I will go where it goes.
