WYSE Goodbye

Last night was the end of the year party for WYSE, the mentoring group I'm in. We honored the graduating seniors with roses and quotes on a scroll that the mentors had added. My quote was one of my all time favorites: "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away." That party was definitely one of those moments. I sat there watching the girls get their roses and listened to the wonderful things that their mentors said about them...all of them so true...and I realized how blessed I have been just to know these girls this year. They are bright and funny and they don't let anyone get away with any bullshit...and their hearts are so pure.
They always tell it like it is and say whatever's on their mind...like when Jessica announced to the whole room that she would rather I had been the one honoring her than the mentor she got. I can't even begin to explain how good and sad that made me feel at the same time. Good, because I had wanted to honor her too...we had become such good friends just in the last couple weeks hanging out at Aida and the sleep over....but sad because I think about all the time all year I could've been friends with her and all the laughs we would've had. It seems like I never truly realize how wonderful people are until they're about to leave. But...I guess that's where the quote comes in...I shouldn't measure my friendship with these girls by exactly how many laughs we've had or the precise amount of time that I've known them...but just by the fact that they are now, and always will be, in my heart.
