ciorstan's Quilt Top Done

She hasn't seen hardly any of it yet. I worked for the same law firm with her for four weeks this winter, and I hope to go back there soon. At lunchtimes, after we ate and chatted, she would pull out her e-book reader and I would pull out my little scraps of cloth for a quilt I decided to make without knowing why. It wasn't at all my personal favorite style of quilt. It wasn't my colors. But I knew I had to make it. I mentioned to her that I was using "Ciorstan colors" and somehow it came out that it was her quilt. I told her that it was her birthday and Christmas present for a couple years to come, because of the work that would have to go into it, and how long it would take to make it, and she grinned.

A lot of the piecing has been done on my bed while aeddie and I have watched television. Or rather while he has watched television and television has watched me, and I've listened, popping my head up when something sounded particularly interesting. Hand sewing is not good for one's fingertips, when one is doing this much of it. Verily half of my fingertips are chewed up because of the needle. I've never learned to use thimbles properly.

It is a scrappy quilt, so there are a zillion colors, some of which are quite vivid, but they all tie together with Ciorstan colors. It's 30 different patchwork blocks, some of which I designed specifically for her. It has her cats in it, her bookshelves (made right after she purged them), her roses, her Regency romances, her earthtones, places we've been together, crowns, the Arthurian cycle, you name it. It's definitely HER quilt. She says her daughter is going to try to kipe it. I've responded that if she does, she doesn't get her own quilt, and that as soon as I get from her, not from her Mama, notification that she has gotten into a college where she has to live in a dorm, I will coordinate with her as to what quilt she will get for her own.

I have quilt batts coming, but I'm thinking I should get a smaller one for this--I forgot what size sashing I was going to use, and it came out about 70"x90", which would be a topper for a queensize bed. It's also the size of a twin sized quilt. Hmm. I think I might need to add a few more blocks, or the kid really will kipe it. Ciorstan wants to use it as a couch comfie, so maybe I will leave well-enough alone. I might also add a border to bring it out a tad more. Or maybe I will leave well-enough alone.

Why don't I leave well-enough alone?
