M/M Meme

Dec 13, 2009 21:57

Never done this before, but there has to be a first time for everything :-D. I was tagged for this meme a shameful number of weeks ago by my friend Indi, aka Cboy_junkie.

This meme was created by Kris at Kris ‘n’ Good Books, as everyone who knows her would have guessed once they reached question 20 :-D.

So, here's to get us in the mood before the questions:

God I love that pic. Classy, all black and white and only faces, but so incredibly sexy and intense. Plus, you can't help wondering what,s happening down below *grin* OK, here we go.

Questions:
1. How long have you been reading GLBTQ fiction?
>> Late the year Lover Revealed came out... that would make it 2006, so 3 years.

2. What was the first book you read in this genre?
>> THE ASSIGNMENT by Evangeline Anderson. Still my favorite :).

3. Are you ‘out’ as a reader?
>> On the internet yes, but not in real life. Only one of my friends knows.

4. Ebooks, print or both?
>> PRINT!!!! I hate ebooks. I buy them only when there's no other choice, or if I'm short on money or unsure a specific book is worth the print price.

5. Do you buy direct from publishers or from secondary sellers?
>> Ssecondary sellers like Amazon for the prints, because the shipping fees to Canada make buying from publishers prohibitive. I am starting to try the buy more ebooks directly from the publishers though, although if they don't let me get the book I buy in several formats (for instance both lit and PDF), I tend to go to Fictionwise.

6. Prove you’re a Book Slut. How many books would you say you buy a week?
>>Well, if my bookslutinesss isn't proven by the fact I keep an up-to-date list of all the books I purchase, so far I've bought about... 90 books since June according to the list, and I believe at least 40 before that. Considering the year isn't over yet and that it doesn't include Star Trek fanzines and ebooks, let's go for 3 a week on average.

7. Are you a cover, blurb or excerpt buyer?
>> Until recently I would have said excerpt, because I seldom buy a book unless I have an excerpt to judge the author's style and whether it suits me. However, after browing pages of stories I needed to decide whether to buy or not for which I had *only* an excerpt, I realized the blurb was very important to me. So, blurb. Although I must also point out that a gorgeous cover can sometimes make me buy a book despite a slightly lacking blub and/or excerpt. (that's another symptom of booksluttishness...always looking for a good excuse to buy a book *g*)

8. Yeah, you read reviews, but do you actually take notice of them?
>> Yes. I can calculate how much I spent on books I bought because of Wave's good reviews if you want.

9. Who’s your fave publisher?
>> Don't really have one, they all have pros and cons. I like Loose ID, good titles and nice covers, but they have very few prints. MLR has only prints and also some good authors, but their covers are sadly lacking. Amber Allure had great authors, correct covers and lots of print books at a decent price, except they aren't available in Canada. Ha! And Dreamspinner has a few good authors, very nice covers and they recently signed my friend Amy which shows good judgement, but their print books are expensive.

10. What about authors? Your top two only!!
>>Oh dear... *mentally flipping through titles in her head* There are several that I love, but for the moment...let's go with M.L. Rhodes and Madelien Urban & Abigail Rous (yes, they count as one because I'm talking about their jooint titles *g*)

11. Is there a sub-genre you particularly dis/like?
>> Adore: Gay for You. Like: Mystery/detective/cop stories.
Abbhors: anything BDSM. Dislike: yaoi and crossdrressing. Werewolfes also get on my nerves these days.

12. Short or long?? *rolls eyes* And, no, I’m not talking about cocks.
>> Long. Short seldom satisfies me. *g*

13. Anything turn you off about m/m or is all just glorious smut to you?
>> A few elements tend to turn me off, like the tendancy to feature very young characters (late teens or early 20s) and the fact men often jump into bed together very quickly. A skilled writer can get me to overcome those reluctance

14. Finish this sentence. You know it’s m/m twu wuv (true love)
>> The men are willing to do things for each other they would have done for no one else.

15. What trope or theme are you heartily sick of in m/m romance?
>> Not sure what a "trope" is, but I can't really think of a specific theme I'm tired of. Or I'm back to the sub-genre questions: BDSM, yaoi, werewolfes, etc.

16. If you could choose any 3 characters for a m/m/m who would they be?
>> At the moment? Kirk, Spock and Dr. McCoy :-D

17. What new GLBTQ release are you most hanging out for right now?
>> The Dark Tide, fifth and *sob* last Adrian English novel.

18. What GLBTQ book has completely blown you away this year?
>> Um... I'd say it's a tie between Tere Michaels's Faith & Fidelity and Steve Kluger's Almost Like Being in Love. Also a special mention to Jane Seville's Zero at the Bone because I expected not to like it and I did, a lot, and to Shayla Kersten and her Helping Hands, an unexpected find (thanks JenB).

19. What do you think we’ll see more of in m/m romance in 2010?
>> Historicals. Is it me or is the number increasing? Not that I'm complaining, at all :).

20. Don’t you agree that author Josh Lanyon should kill off arsehole character Jake Riordan?
>> Hell, NO. And in journalism we call this a tendantious question. :-p

I tag for this M/M meme: Ingrid and Amy !!
