without instrumental accompaniment

*flist rubs its eyes* Yes, it's me, posting to my journal.

In a desperate effort to locate some holiday spirit, I dove into Youtube today. I'm really excited about the season premiere of The Sing Off Monday night, so I started there.

I love a cappella music, so The Sing Off felt like it was made for me. Ben Folds is magic,, Shawn Stockman (Boyz 2 Men) certainly has the credentials, and Nichole Sherzinger...is an excellent dancer with great hair. And the groups are incredible, so there will be wine, popcorn and a reverent silence in my house on Monday and Wednesday nights for awhile. (Sorry Johnny Weir, it breaks my heart to time-shift you, but I must. Will watch pithy comments and fab outfits late night on Tivo.)

Apparently they've leaked the opening number for this season's Sing-Off. Oh, and West Wingers? THE WHIFFENPOOFS are competing this year!

So I was poking around YT for more fun stuff. THIS was my favorite number from Glee, ever (except Bust Your Windows). This is what I thought I'd be getting from Glee from the start, and they finally delivered on my little dream.

That performance is incredible, but this next one is incredible and live! Sorry, Glee, you come from a studio, so we're taking points off for degree of difficulty. Anyway, listen to this -- it's got all kinds of crazy chord progressions and a key changes and other stuff I can hear but can't explain cause I'm not a musician.

(Yes I know it's NSYNC, and it's fucking amazing so shut up and WATCH IT.)
