Yes, RL and DL together again would be magnificent. I can't believe that the sheer force of wishing from all BoB fans hasn't made it so yet. And I second your second, in Ross McCall. That would be so much fun! And if he could use his real accent, all the better.
I totally agree about the flag shot. They do get artsy a lot and I actually really like it. But in this case it was that his actions didn't make any sense. If he's doing something that he would normally do, and they shoot it so that it just looks way cooler, fine. But why did he step aside, twist the flag around his hand and hold it like that? Either it was just a bad choice or I missed something.
Oh, and see I didn't think Charlie was lying to Reese! I think that Charlie has concluded that Jack is a pawn in all this. He started his investigating with Jack, who was certainly complicit, but then worked back to Professor Hathaway (I forget his character's name) who was one of the guys in that old funeral photo. He found out that whomever killed the slain police officer was also threatening Jack Reese, with the now-famous sentence construction of doom: "There was six; there is five; there could just as easily be four." NSA Bodner told him to knock of the investigatin' and he has learned that Roman is the one pulling Bodner's strings.
So I think that Charlie sees Jack and Bodner as pawns, not evil masterminds. He has softened toward both Reese and Bodner, and I think recent scenes with Jack Reese were meant to make us wonder whether he was a bad guy or not. They show all the signs of villain-reversal. Rachel likes him, Charlie overreacts, Jack acts gentle and reasonable.
So are we meant to think that Roman was behind everything from the start? Or that Roman has another reason to keep Charlie from finding the truth?
Ow, my brain. I can't believe I reconstructed all that, given my limitations. :-)
Agreed on the Jack Reese thing. I didn't get the sense Charlie was lying either. Though I'm not necessarily sure Dani believes him because she does or because she has to think her father isn't a monster.
