AOPA Fly-In Open & House, June 7, Frederick, MD

May 20, 2008 08:35

The next annual AOPA fly-in will be in Frederick on June 7th from 8:30am to 5pm. AOPA stands for Aircraft Owner's and Pilot's Association. It's a large private pilot political advocacy group that also provides a bunch of services to pilots, like insurance, financing, news on laws and evens, and things related to actual flight like aircraft-specific weather reports and navigation charts. The fly-in is basically people flying (or driving) into the airport to check out the displays of new aircraft, new tech and toys for pilots, and for merchandisers to show off their stuff. It's kid of like a car expo, but for planes. According to the site, there will be 40 aircraft on display (not counting the ones others fly in on), 100 aviation exhibits, and bunch of other stuff.
So, if you're interested in private planes, or want to see them up close (as opposed to from 3000 to 5000 feet away/below), or just want to know what kind of stuff pilots have to deal with to be able to navigate up there (equipment, charts, etc), feel free to come. KuddlKat and I will try to get there between 11am and noon, unless enough people reply to this to warrant setting a meeting time and place. If you need to contact me directly, you can do so at any time through the e-mail in my profile. That goes directly to my phone. (And if you need my phone number, just ask)

P.S. I'm an AOPA member, and am (very very very) slowly working on my pilot certificate (license), so this is something I am definitely interested in, and knowledgeable about. If you decide to come, I'll be able to answer most of the basic questions you might have.
