Philadelphia

I am currently sitting in the lobby of the Alexander Inn, an old boutique hotel in downtown Philadelphia, on a funky old couch.  Across the room, there's a table full of ladies playing dominoes, and right next to them a table full of men playing another game that has plastic pieces about the size of dominoes but is more like poker.  I wandered into this setting about a half hour ago.  One of the men tried to explain the men's game to me, but I didn't want to interrupt him too long and make him miss his turn or something.  When I walked in, the speakers were playing Kermit the Frog singing Rainbow Connection, and now they're playing "That's the Way It Goes."

What a great city!! (I'll post some pictures as soon as I get just a little more familiar with the new camera.)  I'm here because I felt a need to reconnect with my professional association for a few days (not to mention getting some continuing education credits), and Philadelphia is currently hosting the American Dietetic Association Annual Convention.  I signed on to a neat seminar tonight in "mindfulness eating," and we all met in a Thai restaurant, talked about really enjoying food and about Thic Nhat Han.  The other folks who attended were fascinating, and we all talked like old friends.  On the way back to my hotel I stopped in an open air pub and bought a pint of local ale and performed an exercise in mindfulness drinking.

The city is so historic; full of little narrow cobblestone streets with old buildings sitting right on top of sidewalks.  I know I have more to say.... and I will later.  Bye for now.
