Fic recs
New list of fics that I think are awesome enough to read. Updated periodically, whenever I read a kick ass story. But it's not like anything thinks *my* opinion is worth anything, lmao. Oh, if you need links for any of the fics, I think I still have them, otherwise, I have them downloaded to my laptop *somewhere*.

Notes: This fic touched me in a way many SS/SB/RL fics never have and never will. The author has a way with words that brought tears to my eyes before I had even finished the first page. The characterizations were…well, they were very well done, and done in a way that no other fic writer has captured, in my humble opinion. The relationship between the Marauders at school was described in vibrant detail, and how that relationship changed when they grew older and began to have more separate interests was fabulous. Severus and Sirius trying to untangle emotions that have lain buried for twenty years… When I finished, I was awash in dueling emotions, happiness, wonderment, and sadness… Damn. If I say anything more I’ll spoil it.
Summary: Two enemies try to put aside their differences to find another and discover something much more important than temporary civility.
2. Title: God Slash Us, Everyone

Notes: Funnier than shit. I am a huge fan of Dickens, and normally I would be totally offended at this bastardization, but shit. I cracked my ass laughing, and kept laughing for weeks afterward anytime I thought about it. You must, must, must read, even if you aren’t familiar with A Christmas Carol. It totally inspired me to write a Harry/Snape detention fic, just for that last line of the vision. Oops, I’m spoiling it now, aren’t I? You rock, Amanuensis.
Summary: Harry gets three visitors.

Notes: Love, love, love, love, love. I love Miss Miko. I love this fic. I love Brian and Justin. Miss Miko has taken Brian’s asshole balloon and punctured it, giving us a glimpse into the pain that his cocky façade hides. Thank you. Thank you for this.
Summary: Brian and Justin’s relationship is in serious trouble. Again. Will Brian do what he has to do to save it?

Notes: Damn. Damn. Damn. I always wondered what Brian was feeling in the days leading up to and during the trial of Chris Hobbs. And now I know. Wow. I never laughed once during this story, though there were a few amusing moments. I was too stricken by the onslaught of the trial, the entire process of it, the aftereffects that it had on Brian and Justin’s relationship, the choices they both made, the happiness (so to speak) in the aftermath of the trial and sentencing; it all held me spellbound until the very last words. Miss Miko is to be lauded for her apt description of an emotional trial and the way she handled the legal aspects of it, everything was very accurate. When the final verdict was read, I couldn’t stop myself from sobbing. Full out bawling. I’ve been to court after one of my friends was bashed, and I felt just as emotional when I read this story. Just as tense, waiting for the verdict. Just as scared. Just as angry at Chris Hobbs and the defense. And somehow, not very relieved when the verdict was read. This story touched me, in a way that no others addressing this issue have. And the ending was simply perfect. No other words necessary.
Summary: The trial of Chris Hobbs. And how Brian and Justin deal by supporting each other and protecting the other from the secrets that must come out of the past.

Notes: One fabulous series that has a forthcoming sequel that as of this date (1/3/05) has not been written yet, or at least not posted at Boys of Babylon (dot) com. Acacia is such a talented writer; I love her original characters. Marsha so reminds me of myself, it was kind of scary, actually. This story hit all of my B/J buttons. Romance, angst, anger, suffering, she just touched on everything that I think makes a B/J fic great. A must read, as is everything else on this list. *
Summary: Brian and Justin’s life together, post-Ethan. The ups and downs of a turbulent relationship and the storms that threaten to tear it apart.

Notes: Okay, I love this pairing, but I’ve never written it, because I’m not a huge W/X shipper. But this fic…hot damn. You go, Tienco. I can’t say anything else, cause I might ruin it…but the summary should explain it better than I ever could. I love Willow. I adore Spike. I even love Xander in this story. And everyone gets laid, even better!

So he does nice things for himself, really for Spike, and things happen, and Xander ends up getting what’s behind door #1 and #2. A place called home.

Notes: I would normally *never* read Tara/Spike fics. But this was just funny. Also, a little strange, but it got me going on the idea of Tara/Spike together. I think it could work now. Go Tara for Team Blue! *lol*
Summary: Tara’s a little…curious about something she’s never had. Willow has a very naughty idea. What could possibly go wrong? Oh yeah, you were right. A whole lot.

Notes: *sigh* Is there anything better than X/S slashy goodness? I thought not. Unless you toss in some brooding nancy-boy, that is. Awww, poor Angel…lucky Angel for getting to be in the middle. Starts out as helping, turns into something messy with feelings.
Summary: Spike and Xander find Angel.

Notes: Giles is sneaky. Buffy is worse. But it all works out in the end, right? Peaches is mean to Spike. We don’t like Peaches unless he loves Spike. But when they fight, it’s all homoerotically charged, so we forgive him. Wait, sorry, tangent. Okay, I love Vegas stories. And the first in the series ends in a very good way.
Summary: The gang goes to Vegas…with some not entirely unexpected consequences.
11. Boy Meets Boy

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Xander/Spike.
Notes: I love X/S. I adore BmB. And I was a *wee* bit upset when the series ended. Just like all its other fans. Okay, so when I say wee bit I mean that I sobbed continuously for a month and kept screaming ‘Whee, I’m nekkid’ and then sobbing hysterically, causing family and co-workers to seriously consider committing me. But I love Harley…and Tybalt…and yes, even Mikhail. Also Skids, and dammit, all of them. Even the ferret, and I *hate* ferrets.
Summary: Spike has an obsession. Xander finally discovers why, and slightly overreacts.
12. Ooh, Vegas!

Notes: Most people that know me know that I love Vegas. And I love this pairing. This story paired two of my favorite things (well, three, really), mopey Willow, and two sexy vamps come to cheer our favorite redhead up. Smut, smut, smut.
Summary: Willow’s feeling lonely on her b-day and her fav vamps show up to make it all better.

Notes: Thank god there is someone else out there who believes that Angel/Angelus are two separate entities but still care for each other and are together inside of that body. Angelus isn’t gone when the soul is there. Oh yeah, is he ever still there. *g* They take care of each other, but when Spike is added into the mix, things begin to happen. Laughing Angel, snarky Angelus, confused Spike. Nothing better.
Summary: Do Angel’s friends know him as well as they think?

Pairings: Willow/Spike, Buffy/Riley, Angel/Cordy, Fred/Gunn
Notes: Funny. Kendra is a bomb parody writer, though I’ve read some of her serious work too, and that kicks ass also. But this is the kind of funny that you’re laughing about days, weeks later.
Summary: The above mentioned people sort through some stereotypical fanfics and then hit the motherlode.

Notes: Very sweet, very Emmy. I adore her writing, but this has got to be one of my favorites. X-over with Anita Blake, which really isn’t a series I like, but it works here. Spike takes Willow away at her request, and they discover something about themselves in the process.
Summary: Spike takes Willow anywhere but here.

Notes: This story made me cry more than once. I’ve said before that I adore X/S fics, but I especially have a weakness for Xander hurt, Spike take care of Xander fics. For the record, I hate deadbeat dads more than a lot of things in my life.
Summary: Spike learns something serious about Xander, and things change between the two of them.
17) Camp Kill A Lot

Pairing: Connor/Dawn
Notes: I really dislike this pairing, but the title drew me in and made me read it, and I have to admit (under extreme duress) that Karen did a kick ass job of putting the two of them together and making it believable, at least to me. It had all the elements of a well-written story, violence, angst, and little bit of romance tossed in. Blend on high and you get a fic like this one.
Summary: Summer camp sucks, in more ways than one.

Notes: I don’t usually do alternate seasons of BtVS, with good reason, in my opinion. My one exception was Anna’s Season Noir, but this kicks some ass too. Faith has always been my favorite slayer, and I hate Kennedy and love Willow, so yes, this rings my bells. In a really good way.
