Just got back from another Raglan.....this one was fun, despite the rain. Friday was OK, sunny at times, and warm. My class on Friday didn't happen (well no-one turned up for it, though a few people asked for the handout afterwards). I generally wandered round, chatted to people and then went to the bank in Monmouth with Agatha & Ursula to add me as a signatory to the ID account. I think we created quite a stir standing in the bank in garb waiting for our appointment!
Saturday the weather was miserable, with it damping/mizzling right from the start of the tourney, and then pouring for 10minutes or so about halfway through. I wore silk, so that was a bad idea in the rain!
The outfit didn't work as well as I hoped, as the waistcoat doesn't really fit properly over the kirtle - the kirtle is really designed to go under my heavy Henrician gown, but I was trying to find a way to use it on days that were too warm for the Henrician (e.g. everything but the coldest winter day!)
goncalves fought for me, and very sweetly sent a messenger with a rose every time he lost a bout. Since, unfortunately, he lost every bout, I ended up with a nice bunch of 7 cream and yellow roses, which sat happily in a jug in Agatha's tent until I left this morning, and are now sitting in a vase on my hearth! Master Robert of Canterbury and THL Genevieve won the tournament to become Prince and Princess, and very well-deserved it was. I think Master Robert fought the best I have ever seen him fight, and there was a huge cheer when he won.
After the tourney the weather still wasn't great, but I had a very pelasant afternoon, going to a class on temari taught by
sharikkamur, having tea and cake in Agatha's tent with Agatha and Anjuli, chatting to other friends, and watching some of the afternoon battles in Fountain court.
In the evening court ran rather late, so we all got caught in a downpour, and court had to de-camp to the undercroft for the stepping down/up ceremony. Since it was running so late
purplemermaid and I had to leave before the end as we had booked dinner in the Beaufort Arms with
ormsweird, where we had a very pleasant evening chatting and eating! I was rather exhausted though, so I missed lemon drizzle cake, and Perry back in
ormsweird's room.
Today the weather looked rather dismal when
purplemermaid and I said our goodbyes to everyone at the castle, so we headed off almost straight away, so that
purplemermaid could get her usual train home. Now, though, it is beautifully sunny here, and I have managed to pick a huge bowl of raspberries from the garden!
