Use Your Words!

We often tell young children to "use your words" when they are sorting out strong feelings or conflict. But beyond that simple message, life gets a lot more complicated.

Deborah Ruddell's humorous and wise picture book WHO SAID COO? demonstrates to young readers that it's not just what you say, it's *how* you say it.

Lulu the Pig just wants a good night's sleep. But mischievous Owl and Pigeon are making trouble... making mischief... making noise! When Lulu uses her words and sets a limit, feelings get hurt and feathers get ruffled.

Will Lulu be able to get a good night's sleep and repair her friendships with Owl and Pigeon? This picture book serves as a wonderful springboard to a discussion with young children about sticking up for oneself, using your words, and the power of diplomacy!

Author Deborah Ruddell is an accomplished poet, and her words in this fun and thought-provoking story sparkle. I'll be recommending it to my teacher friends, college students, and parents of young children, too!
