Smelling Lois

Jul 25, 2010 18:02

I've been visiting family in Houston, TX this past week and luckily we were here the same time that the rare corpse flower was blooming. So we all piled in our cars and headed over to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The corpse flower "Lois" was six feet tall and smelled like a rotting corpse. Corpse flowers (native to the tropical forests of Sumatra) are extremely rare and bloom once every few hundred years. Supposedly there are only 23 in the United States. It was very interesting to visit besides the smell.
