Possession

I just finished watching the adapted-to-screen version of A.S. Byatt's Possession, circa 2002 and fleshed out with Gwyneth Paltrow (awesomely good Maud) and Aaron Eckhart (sad, sad, stupid and overly attractive version of should-be-admirably-scholarly Roland). I can safely say if I had been foolish enough to waste $6 to see the movie in theatres I would've been confused, bored, and utterly disgusted at the character of Roland, but as a freebie from our library and after reading the book it was a worthwhle early afternoon. Lucky I did read the book first --while all you other Davern's-HD-IV kids were reading Life of Pi-- and it's one of my favorites despite falling into a subcategory of the romance genre.

Oral History is what I'm reading now, for Contemp Lit, and it's alright. I don't think I've lived enough to appreciate authors who spend so much time writing in colloquialisms, and I really know nothing about the Appalacians, so all the effort spent on weird incestuous mountain syntax is kind of lost on me. Appears to be a short read, however! So hahahaha bite me, Dr. Butler. I won't have to make stuff up on the next test.

I think I need to read some Faulkner. Every damn book I've read so far relates back to Faulkner. Really I thought he owned a brewing company or something.

Abbey has been sleeping in my room on the floor lately to avoid Buck knife-wielding, Herpes-sportin' Sheana. I occasionally step on her.

Preston got the snot beat out of him last night by Compton. I had told him previously that sometimes its the skinny blonde boys that can really whoop up on you, especially after four years in the Navy. I wish I had gotten to see it. Preston needed to get beaten.

We hung out in Jenn's room and then in James and Chris' and listened to music and started to watch Hope Floats, to no avail. Abbey and I got bored and went to the park. It was 39 degrees outside and raining.

My French teacher -- Mme. O'Brien -- and her daughter took me to the nicest restaurant in Alpine last night. It was amazing. I had a piece of salmon that cost more than half of my student loan check, I swear. Charlotte's at A&M but ever since moving away from San Antonio when we were 7 and 9, respectively, she's lived in the Fort Davis / Alpine / Marfa area so we actually managed to keep up an interesting conversation. I vividly remember hating her when I was little, but I also never wanted to play with her. Forced mother thing.

I am so good at wasting days!

You can't really see the mountains because of the fog. Hell, I can barely see the sidewalk three stories down.

I want to go hiking.

There is an insane amount of drama going on on this campus. It bores me highly.

Lame and unanswerable question, but will anyone be home the weekend of 22 October? :[

The Academic Decathlon team re-used the idea of 'ACADORKS' on their tshirt. I blame Random. That was so my idea last year.

I want to see some cold, rocky European coastline.

In November I will have kept this LiveJournal for two years.
