Title:             A Grand Day Out
Fandom:      High Society
WCount:      600
Rating:         PG
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters involved, and the is just for entertainment purposes only.
Plot:              Dott, Ellie and Brendan go to the cinema, just a little bit of silliness. Last night when I was at the cinema I saw an advert for Coco before Chanel and I thought that Dott and Ellie would like to go see it. This is that fic. Its set in modern day, so quite some time after the end of the series.

“I don’t see why we can’t just get this on DVD when it comes out.”

“Oh Ellie, don’t you see? This is the big screen, the shimmering cinema! We can see it all in shiny colour, it will make the clothes look even more impressive.”

“Shiny colour is what High Definition was made for.”

“I don’t see why you two couldn’t just go the cinema on your own.”

“Oh Brendan, don’t you see? This is the big screen, the shimmering cinema! It’s a family bonding activity. It’ll be nice to spend some time with you, I hardly ever get to see you.”

“Well I have moved to New Jersey Mom.”

Dott Emerson entered the New York cinema with her high heels ringing out on the linoleum floor. Several of the patrons turned to look at the immaculately dressed woman, with a designer skirt suit and an expensive engagement ring on her finger. Ellie Walker entered the doors next, sharply dressed like her best friend but without the joy in her eyes, instead eyeing the ‘no smoking’ signs with distain. Brendan, Dott’s son, kicked his heels from behind them, hoping that this ‘family bonding’ would be over soon and he could return to his own.

“Three tickets to Coco before Chanel please,” Dott asked the cashier politely and handed over the required money. She was so excited to be seeing this film; she had followed the progress of filming eagerly with Ellie, and was looking forward to her icon being on the big screen.

Brendan was smiling at the arcade games in the corner, watching the young kids with their parents play around before going to see a film. He had two of his own now, Alice and Sam, and a wife that thankfully wasn’t Ellie. She still flirted with him, which was why he had thought moving to New Jersey with his family was a good idea - he had never felt comfortable going over to see his Mother with Madeline if Ellie was there. The downside of course was now he barely saw his Mom, and she had needed some family time after her own had passed away.

Ellie was watching the trailers playing on the screens, and caught a glimpse of Brad Pitt grinning. He looked good with a moustache, so damn burly. As the trailer shifted, Ellie looked around the hellhole that Dott had brought them to. There was ice cream and popcorn, and a variety of different snacks on offer - Ellie were tempted by the ice cream but that was only because the handsome man scooping it was eyeing her up. She wasn’t promised to someone, unlike her best friend, so she gave him a coy wave.

“Ellie, come on,” Dott grabbed her arm, leading her away from the handsome man and into the theatre. They found their seats and sat down, Brendan joined them a few moments later with popcorn and a drink.

“We did bring snacks Brendan.”

“But you’re not allowed to bring your own,” her son stated quizzically.

He then watched his mother dig around in the handbag by her feet for a refrigerated compartment and then handed Ellie some duck rolls, breaded cheese and caviar before putting her own portion on fine china. After the advertisements and the trailers, they settled down to watch the film.

Brendan had to admit that it was a good film, that it was nice to spend some time as a family, and also nice to see his mother smile. He hadn’t seen her do that in a very long time.
