We went to Asheville this weekend.
Chuck and I had planned to go do the
Black Mountain Reggae 5K on Saturday and to stay with my youngest sister and her family.
My dad decided to add some fun to the weekend by developing chest pains Wednesday night that put him in the hospital. He had an angioplasty on Friday and came home Saturday.
So, my other sister was up to see him this weekend and we got to see her, too.
My dad is fine.. He just has to take it easy for a little while. He said he is going to fulfill his commitments for this year and the retire again this Fall. After he retired 5 years ago, he has gradually been doing more and more volunteer stuff for the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina. He has bee working since he was 12 and it is just hard for him to quit it.
Frankly, I think he has a lot in common with
dianesowo.
My 9 year old nephew, Forrest, plays soccer in a league that had him in Greensboro to play a few weekends ago. He played hard for 2 hours. So, when he asked if we thought he could handle a 5K and, when we said "definitely yes!", he asked if he could go. And we took him.
We thought he was going to hang with me, but he started out at speed with the pack and he left me in the dust. :-) Chuck passed him at about a mile. He was walking to catch his breath; he walked and ran the whole way but he never stopped completely to rest.
Chuck finished in 27 minutes and 20 seconds. Forrest finished in 32 plus a little. I walked it in 45 minutes and 28 seconds. :-)
We tie dyed our event shirts and generally had a big time.
Then we all cleaned up and took my dad out for his birthday celebration.
