Yay! The Higdon violin concerto came in today - I've wanted to hear it for ages (it won the Pulitzer in '08) but it hadn't been recorded for the public yet. Mostly (to be honest) I wanted to hear it b/c of Hilary Hahn - I met her when she did a tour through Texas at the Bass years and years ago. She was so nice and we talked for like, a minute, but she was just so gracious and easygoing. Most performers I've ever met are either just rude or don't care about the listening public.
Which I just don't understand, it's not like they've got mobs of fan out there, just a happy listening public, supporting them by buying tickets to their recitals.
I'm not much for contemporary concertos - but this isn't bad, it's quite lyrical and jazzy - I haven't heard the entirety yet, but I'm doing so now.
Also another honest confession - I figure this CD is a win-win- a new concerto written for Hahn plus her doing Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto (which I gave into temptation and listened to a bit of - very light!)
Anywho - go ahead and listen - I think you'd like it. :D PS: You'll need a password - if you want it, just PM me through LJ.
