Personally, I think he didn't regress to Teddy. He (Andrew) *chose* the lobotomy route.
I'm actually surprised that people did read the ending any other way, it was just so clear to me that it was a conscious decision after that line (which I also loved, I'm sure that line was lifted straight out of the novel).
Oh, people rarely surprise me these days :) A friend of mine didn't even believe the story the docs told him was true. He puts his foot down that the conspiracy was true, and that they made Teddy crazy. Anyway, I would also put my money on that line being from the book, in fact, I should read it.
