hay fever and linguistics

May 11, 2010 19:30

i guess i've got hay fever. i am no expert but i've never felt like this before and it's spring and my mum suffers from it every year. and i've never even been allergic to anything!! that's not fair, i used to think i wouldn't have anything to worry about for at least another 20 years or so. it's the Moscow climate and my weak immune system, i suppose.

oh god, my eyes are all watery and itchy, my nose's running like a sprinter, i sneeze non-stop and occasionally cough. and i'd thought i had had a cold (cos of the high temperature).. now i think it's both, which is no consolation.

on another note. since i've not done anything remotely useful over the last few days i'm going to spend the rest of my day on Literature. there's homework to do in other subjects but surely i've set my priorities by now.
btw, that's amusing in a way: http://www.marin.edu/~don/study/Hcontents.html a bit too late for me, isn't it? i'll read it anyway, maybe it'll help to manage time.

today at our ICT lesson i was asked how many 'bad words' i knew in English. i didn't quite get what that boy meant by this: swear words or slang in general. turned out it was insults he was interested in. hahaha, i said i didn't insult people and even if i did, i couldn't just give him the list off the top of my head, it'd be just too weird. this applies to anything actually, human memory doesn't work like that. so i showed him some slang dictionaries and found some amusing things for myself, like articles on the etymology of certain expressions i had only guessed before.
in fact, i had to write an essay expressing my opinion on capital punishment, but it just didn't happen.

p.s. в РГГУ за русский у меня диплом 3й степени. лучше, чем ничего. увидм, что он сможет мне дать. ждем результатов Ломоносова и решений приемных комиссий ВУЗов.
