BLACK DYNAMITE

Five days ago I found out about this movie. Boys, what Tarantino and Rodriguez did in Grindouse can potentially be topped by the movie "Black Dynamite" , a genuine blaxploitation film starring Michael Jai White (who most of you know because of his appearance in "The Dark Knight", as mobster Gambol, the receiving end of the Joker's first "scars" story). The plot is as follows:

"In 1972, Black Dynamite, a former CIA agent, is called back into the business when the Italian mob kills his brother, fills black orphanages with heroin, and floods the street with bad malt liquor. He soon discovers a vast conspiracy, reaching all the way to the White House."

The two trailers released show the two different aspects of the film; the red band trailer shows the action, sexual and gritty aspects of the film. The second, green band trailer, shows the comedic, light, quasi-spoofy side of the film. "Black Dynamite"s trailers show us that it's ripe with action, oozing quotable lines (both funny and 70's cool i.e. "This is a private meeting, how did you get in?" "I walked". And "I AM smiling"), as scratchy in image and aged in sound as a good vintage flick from the 70's and just a lot of fun. The clothes, the music ("DY-NO-MITE!")and the sexy retro women (direct your attention to the girl with the unbelievable resemblence to Pam Grier---afro and all) all look amazing. This isn't a parody flick--this is a straightfoward recreation of an awesome genre, with some good self-referential comedy to boot.

The film is an independent production that just got released at Sundance. All the screenings are sold out. Its distribution fate will soon be decided, but hopefully it will be picked up for theatres. When that happens, we will all attend the premiere dressed up in our best outfits.

I can't hardly wait. This is the kind of movie that people lament are no longer made. I'm so psyched!
