CTY
I've barely written on here all summer, so here's an update. I'm at CTY at Mount Holyoke. I love my job! I teach 11 and 12 year olds about theatre all day long. But since I'm the TA and not an instructor, I don't actually have a whole lot of responsibility. Just fun! And it is fun! The kids are great, and both of my instructors are awesome. I worked with one instructor for the first session, and now I'm working with another one. They have completely different styles, but they're both really cool, and I've learned a lot about teaching. I really like being in the classroom, so teaching has made it onto my list of possible future careers (and its a bit more practical than some of my others: director, world traveler, astronaut).
Socially, it's been a little bit awkward. Because, as we all know, I am a little bit socially awkward. It was really hard for the first week or two, but its gotten a lot better. I've met a lot of cool people and had some really good times hanging out with them. I think it just takes me a long time to feel like I fit in somewhere. But I'm pretty happy now. I definitely spend too much money going to bars, but oh well.
There's a staff game of assassins happening right now. I made an accurate guess about when my mark would be coming home, and I waited for him on the porch, then made my kill! It was so satisfying. I don't know how long I'll be alive, but I'm constantly looking over my shoulder.
That's about it. I'm really glad I have this job, but I'm looking forward to seeing friends at home and back at Grinnell. Two weeks left! Time flies.
