Well, it looks like I may have to deal with the loss of Harry Potter and NANA close to the same time, and I'm none too happy about it. I hate it when things I've loved for a long time end. (I was in mourning for weeks after the ST:DS9 finale.) But NANA is definitely moving on full steam and I think there's little doubt that we're getting very close to the end.
*****SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS -- IF YOU HAVEN'T READ UP TO CHAPTER 66 IN NANA AND DON'T WANT TO KNOW DON'T READ ANY FURTHER*****
I'm guessing the speculation that it will end on chapter 77 is probably spot on. Now that the remaining former BLAST! members and Hachi know where Nana O. is, it seems to be only a matter of time before they, and we, find out just why she left. And with BLAST's arena show coming up very quickly, I can only imagine that the moment of crisis is going to coincide with it somehow. I'm almost sure we're going to see some advancement on the Ren/Reira front pretty quickly as well. They're clearly using each other to escape from their dysfunctional relationships, and it seems only a matter of time before the relationship becomes (more) physical.
Some interesting observations from the future segment. Shin has finally grown up! Yay for Shin for gaining the maturity to realize how much his lifestyle as a teenager has crippled him - and good for Yazawa for very subtly sneaking in the message that it's important to give yourself enough education and/or experience that you have options when you're older. And Shin and Misato! Perfect! So appropriate! But it's clear that Shin never totally got over Reira. I wonder what happened to her...
I kind of dread saying this, because I know I'm way, way in the minority here, but to me this segment proves how right Nana was not to choose Nobu. He's a sweet, caring guy, but it seems to me he still has a long way to go before he's really daddy material. To me, the fact that he's still clinging to the rock star image by opening a club illustrates that. He's growing up, clearly, but he doesn't seem to be ready to totally mature and let go of his youth. (Lest I simply sound old and jaded, I should note that I hung around with a lot of bands in my teens and early 20s and know and handful of people who went on to start clubs, etc. - so I do speak from experience here.)
And what's up with Nana K.!?! Seems she might be living independent from Takumi. At least, she's clearly got her own business and her own life. And it almost sounds like she might be living with and/or taking care of Ren??? Huh? The wording is a little vague here, but that certainly sounds like what Nobu is suggesting in their conversation. In fact, it almost sounds like Ren and Nana spend much of their time together in Japan, while Takumi spends quite a bit of his in England.
Argh! Now it's going to kill me to wait for chapter 67!
