[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Carol Susan Jane Danvers
FANDOM: Comics
CHRONOLOGY: Right after issue #38 of the current Ms. Marvel comic.

BACKGROUND:
Carol Danvers entered the Air Force upon graduating from high school to pursue her love of aircrafts and her dreams of flying. Carol was a top student at the Air Force Academy and enjoyed a rapid career advancement rising to the rank of Major. Because of her stellar performance, superb combat skills and natural intellect, Carol was recruited into the intelligence field. She ended up serving with the C.I.A., during which time she met and worked with Colonel Nick Fury. She was partnered with Colonel Michael Rossi and the two became lovers. Carol had a distinguished career in the C.I.A.

Following her affiliation with the C.I.A., Carol took a position with N.A.S.A. as the security director for Cape Canaveral. It was in this capacity that Carol first met Captain Marvel, the Kree warrior, Mar-Vell. In her official capacity, Carol was challenged with unraveling the mystery of this alien soldier. During her investigation, the two forged a unique bond, first as friends and then as lovers. This relationship would change Carol forever.

Captain Marvel's mortal enemy, Colonel Yon-Rogg kidnapped Carol, using her as bait in his conflict with Mar-vell. In the course of the battle, Carol and Mar-vell were caught in the explosion of a Kree Psyche-Magneton device. The energy bombardment somehow caused Carol’s genetic structure to be melded with Mar-vell's. While Mar-vell was apparently unaltered by the event, Carol was now a perfect hybrid of Kree and human genes. In addition, she possessed all of Mar-vell's Kree knowledge and training. Through this transformation, Ms. Marvel was born.

Because of her failure to capture Captain Marvel, Carol lost her job at N.A.S.A. She recovered quickly, writing a successful novel about her experience in the space industry. This led to her landing a position as the editor of WOMAN magazine, a subsidiary of the Daily Bugle. Carol’s viewpoints as a staunch feminist created tensions with her boss J. Jonah Jameson, but made her the perfect choice to be WOMAN magazine’s editor.

Just as Carol was beginning this new chapter of her life, the powers and persona of Ms. Marvel began to emerge. At first, Carol experienced blackouts triggered by Ms. Marvel’s precognitive seventh sense and the two personas were very distinct, both mentally and physically. As time went on and Carol came to accept her new role as Ms. Marvel, the two personalities merged. A second exposure to the energies of a Kree Psyche-Magnetron also imbued Ms. Marvel with some of the properties, which formally resided in her Kree uniform (namely flight and the ability to change into costume at will).

She also joined up with the Avengers for a brief period. It was with the Avengers that Carol came to the attention of the creature known as Marcus. The son of Immortus, Marcus observed the Avengers from afar and became obsessed with Ms. Marvel. Marcis kidnapped Carol using Immortus’ technology to manipulate her mind and seduce her into loving him. Marcus impregnated Carol with a child who would rapidly grow up into Marcus himself, enabling him to escape Limbo. Marcus then returned Carol to the Avengers, unaware of her time and seduction in Limbo. Carol was shocked to learn she was pregnant and devastated as she was completely unaware of the identity of the father. The pregnancy ran its course in a matter of days, leaving Carol shaken. The child grew within a day into a full-grown man, one who was determined to win his “mother’s” love. Bewildered by the entire experience, Carol agreed to accompany Marcus back to Limbo. Once in Limbo, Marcus continued to age and quickly died of old age, leaving Carol alone in Limbo and free of his mind control. Carol was sickened by Marcus’ manipulations and felt betrayed by the Avengers who failed to question Marcus’ actions or motives. Carol mastered Immortus’ technology and returned to Earth, choosing to settle in San Francisco instead of returning to the Avengers.

Carol’s return was sensed by Destiny, Mystique’s partner. Destiny had previously prophesied that Ms. Marvel would be involved in an event that would destroy the life of Rogue, Mystique’s foster daughter. Mystique vowed to destroy Ms. Marvel before this could happen and developed an obsessive hatred for Ms. Marvel. Rogue, overhearing Destiny’s concerns and Mystique’s ranting, decided to take the battle to Carol herself. Rogue attacked Carol in San Francisco. Carol resisted and the two battled atop the Golden Gate Bridge. When Rogue tried to use her power-absorbing abilities on Carol something went terribly wrong and she absorbed too much of Carol’s persona. The transfer of powers and psyche was permanent. Driven mad by Carol's thoughts and memories, Rogue threw Carol's body from the bridge.

Amazingly, Carol was rescued by Spider-Woman. At the hospital, Carol was identified and diagnosed as a tabula rasa, a blank slate. Jessica Drew called in Professor Xavier of the X-Men, who was able to pull forth Carol's memories and personality from her subconscious. However, he was unable to restore her emotional connection to those memories and experiences. Carol and Jessica spent some time at the X-Mansion while Carol recovered from her ordeal. During this time, a now powerless Carol confronted the Avengers and vented her anger for their betrayal of her.

Carol remained with the X-Men for a brief time, during which she often accompanied them on missions. One such mission led to Carol's capture by the alien Brood. Fascinated by her Kree/Human physiology, the Brood performed experiments on Carol's genetic structure. This unleashed the full potential of Carol's Kree/Human physiology transforming her into the cosmic-powered Binary. Carol now possessed more power than ever due to her link to a "white hole." Carol returned with the X-Men and was strongly considering joining them on a permanent basis when the desperately troubled Rogue came to Xavier for help. Upon seeing Rogue, Carol punched her into orbit! The X-Men reluctantly informed Carol that Xavier had allowed Rogue to join the X-Men. Unable to accept this, Carol opted to join the space pirates known as the Starjammers and leave her troubles on Earth behind.

As Binary, Carol was a valued member of the Starjammers and fought alongside them to restore Lilandra to the Shi'ar throne. In space, Carol was able to escape her loss and rebuild her life. The stars were her escape and offered her a whole universe in which to escape the emptiness her former life represented. Carol remained with the Starjammers for a number of years. During this time, she lived out her lifelong dream of exploring the stars. She formed a close friendship with Raza Longknife, the sullen cyborg member of the Starjammers. Despite fighting the Shi'ar forces and her former enemy Deathbird, Carol found herself frustrated at the lack of challenge among the Starjammers' adversaries. When Earth's sun was threatened, Carol chose to abandon her mission for the Shi'ar Majestrix Lilandra Neramani and aid the Avenger Quasar in saving it. This effort left Carol in a depleted state and she spent months recuperating at Avengers Mansion. During this time, she reconciled with the Avengers. When the Starjammers came to Earth and into conflict with the Avengers, Carol helped resolve the conflict and decided to try and rebuild her life on Earth.

Carol renamed herself Warbird and rejoined the Avengers following a reality-warping conflict with Morgan le Fay. She brought with her a whole new set of problems. First, her powers were slowly depleting. She tried to hide this fact from the Avengers, leading to a conflict with Captain America. Carol has also developed a drinking problem, which was immediately noticed by recovering alcoholic and fellow Avenger, Iron Man. Her drinking, coupled with her determination to prove herself a worthy addition to the Avengers and her secretiveness about her power loss, led to reckless grand-standing and sloppy teamwork. This eventually endangered the lives of her teammates and lead to a formal court martial before her fellow Avengers. Rather than face her problems and a forced demotion to reserve status, Carol quit the team. This all occurred amidst the Avengers' latest conflict with the rebel Kree. Seeking to join the battle despite leaving the team, Carol realized that she no longer had the capability to reach escape velocity or the battle on the Moon between the Avengers and the Kree Lunatic Legion.

Disheartened, Carol has realized that she's hit rock bottom. She aided by both Iron Man and Wolverine in battle, and started to make some progress in accepting her alcoholism but refused to accept that she had a serious problem for months. After her drinking almost led to disaster in a number of combat situations, Carol was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. Carol's doctor warned that she had done considerable damage to her internal organs and that another drink might kill her. This diagnosis combined with the knowledge that she had nearly killed a planeful of people during a drunken rage forced Carol to admit the severity of her drinking problem. She accepted that she was an alcoholic and started attending AA meetings on a regular basis.

Having maintained her sobriety for a few months, Carol returned to active duty with the Avengers. As Warbird, she proved to herself and her teammates that she was an asset to the team. During her latest stint with the Avengers, Carol formed a fast friendship with the She-Hulk and the new Avenger, Triathlon. She has demonstrated signs of tactical skill and leadership potential during the team's battles against Kulan Gath, Count Nefaria and the Triune Understanding.

During the event known as The Kang War, Warbird was faced with a temporal counterpart of Marcus Immortus who went by the name Scarlet Centurion. The Scarlet Centurion was the heir apparent to his father Kang and assisted him in his latest campaign against the Avengers. This Marcus also became fascinated with Warbird and watched her throughout their encounters with the Avengers. Eventually, Warbird and the Scarlet Centurion met face-to-face. Trapped together, Carol was forced to reconcile her long-time conflict over her encounter with the other Marcus. She was torn by her hatred of the Marcus who abducted and raped her and her growing respect for and attraction to this nobler version. In the end, the Scarlet Centurion undermined his father's efforts to conquer the Avengers due to his attraction to Warbird. Warbird played a major role in Kang's eventual defeat.

The Avengers became involved in a biological crisis involving the machinations of the Red Skull. Warbird showed up in a new more military-styled costume. Again, Carol's leadership and tactical skills were highlighted. After the crisis was averted, Warbird was offered a post as the Chief of Tactical Operations and Superhuman Liaison for the Department of Homeland Security. She accepted and seems to be thriving in this new role. This new position with the US government has enabled Warbird to continue to work with the New Avengers and the Thunderbolts and the X-Men in the new capacity as the X-Treme Sanctions Enforcers (XSE). She also retook the name Ms. Marvel.

When the Scarlet Witch warped reality, Carol was one of the few people who remembered the events when reality was restored, and she determined to prove her worth as a true hero, something she had experienced during the events. She told this to Captain America when he offered her membership in the new Avengers team, but she declined, feeling unready to join that august assemblage. Cap assured her that a place would always be available to her in the Avengers.

Ms. Marvel joins the faction of superheroes aligned with Iron Man in enforcing the Superhuman Registration Act. She battles fellow Avenger Silverclaw. Danvers then works with Wonder Man and Arachne (Julia Carpenter, formerly Spider-Woman II) to train novice superheroes and hunt down anti-Registration heroes. Her first recruit is Araña.

Araña is later critically injured while attempting to help Carol against Doomsday Man, as he rips off the carapace which becomes part of her body when she is in battle. Araña recovers, but her father takes out a restraining order against Carol. Arachne is revealed to be acting against the Superhuman Registration Act, which results in Carol arresting her. Carol believes she has done the right thing but is upset by the trauma the incident causes Arachne's daughter.

Later, Arachne escapes and confronts Carol about the whereabouts of her daughter. Carol tells Julia her daughter was left at the Carpenter family home with her parents. When Julia tells her the house is empty, Carol reluctantly uses her government connections to help Julia track down her daughter. Determined to make things right, she helps Julia visit and ultimately reclaim her daughter from Julia's parents, who have legal custody of the child and, in the aftermath of Julia's property-damaging arrest, regard Julia as a dangerous criminal who is unfit to be a mother. Carol and Tony Stark work out an agreement in which Julia will serve her time in government service by joining the Canadian super-team Omega Flight. Julia agrees, although she says she can neither forget nor forgive what Carol did to her and her daughter.

Shortly following the arrest of Julia Carpenter, Carol returns home to find Rogue in her apartment. Rogue informs Carol there's a problem between them, and that they're going to solve it.

The problem is the discovery of another woman in Carol's apartment, whom Beast deduces to be an alternate-Earth Carol Danvers. The alternate Carol, named Warbird, earlier attacked Rogue.

Warbird, who has never fully recovered from her battle with her Earth's Rogue, is an embittered alcoholic. When the Avengers send out a call for assistance during the Brood's assault, she ignores it and, consequently, her Earth is destroyed. A combination of the shockwave released by the planet's destruction and her own energy absorption powers tosses Warbird across several universes before bringing her to the "real" Earth.

Upon learning of Warbird's behavior, Carol does not hide her rage and disgust, and a fight between the two ensues. During the course of the battle, Rogue intervenes; in a fit of anger Carol attacks her and breaks her ribs. Warbird tells Carol that since her world was destroyed, she has been to dozens of alternate Earths, and not only did she kill every version of Rogue she has found, she has murdered every version of Carol Danvers as well (each Carol would intervene on Rogue's behalf). Infuriated, Carol defeats Warbird, who is taken into custody.

Carol later returns to the Xavier Institute to check on Rogue, and questions whether she has truly forgiven her. After the ordeal, Carol flies into space where she can unleash her rage in a place that "nobody can hear her scream."

During the Skull invasion, Ms Marvel led the Mighty Avengers in that time of mistrust. In the chaotic final battle in Manhattan, Nick Fury and the new Howling Commandos appeared, promising to turn the tide. Ms. Marvel, after being heavily blasted by a group of Skrull soldiers ended up rising in the middle of Fury and his group in Times Square. Carol was shocked by the return of the ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. leader. As they quickly headed into the fray, Yo-Yo, the team's mutant speedster, managed to rescue all the downed Young Avengers and Initiative cadets before further execution and casualties. Ms. Marvel proceeded to help, but soon after was shot by Fury, who was unconvinced that she was the real Carol Danvers. After being shot back into another street, the Skrull onlookers quickly overran her, with the Skrull "Hank Pym" looking down at her with a smirk on his face. Fury then called his men to retreat so that they could plan the next move.

In the aftermath of the invasion, Carol was left jobless and teamless. Though a she did join up with the New Avengers, she had other issues to handle. Her powers seemed to be in flux again, and whenever she used them, she would experience massive pain. While chasing down her past, the pain finally became too much and Carol was forced to leave the Earth’s atmosphere. Her power erupted out of her, making all those on the planet below believe she had exploded.

PERSONALITY:
Carol is fiercely independent and self-reliant. She has always been a woman who challenges gender expectations and who has excelled in male dominated fields. She strongly believes that she can do anything she sets her mind to. She is highly sensitized to sexist attitudes and is a staunch believer in her capabilities as a woman. Anyone who tries to tell her otherwise had better watch out. Carol has definitely found the inherent strength in her own femininity.

Carol is an incredibly confident and strong-willed individual, despite the mental and physical tragedies that have befallen her. She has overcome incredible odds, both personally and professionally. She has a warrior spirit and raw will power that has been compared to Storm's. This personality trait has allowed her to endure physical and mental torture and to maintain both sanity and focus under extremely stressful and painful conditions. In addition, she has demonstrated a higher than average level of resistance to mental domination.

Carol is a warrior at heart. Both her human and Kree experiences have shaped her perspectives and her personality. She thinks and responds as a trained soldier and warrior. This plays a strong role in how she reacts in various situations. She can be fierce, ruthless and brutal in battle. She does what needs to be done and this militaristic determination can sometimes come across as cold and callous. She is incredibly assertive, straightforward and downright bold. Carol entered the military due to her almost obsessive love of airplanes and her dreams of flying.

She can physically exert herself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair her. However, she is capable of channeling absorbed energy to further increase her stamina to higher levels.

Superhuman Durability: The tissues of her body are considerably harder and more resistant to physical injury than those of an ordinary human. Ms. Marvel is capable of withstanding high caliber bullets, great impact forces, falls from great heights, exposure to temperature and pressure extremes, and powerful energy blasts without sustaining injury. While channeling the energy she has absorbed, her body's resilience is extended to an even greater degree, even allowing her to survive in the vacuum of space for extended periods.

COMMUNITY POST SAMPLE:
The last thing I remember, my whole body felt like it was on fire. There was this bright light, and then. Well, nothing. I think I died. But if I died, I shouldn’t be here. At least, that’s what logic says. It could be that, maybe that light I saw was whatever brought me here? Which bring be to my real question…

Where am I? This isn’t New York City, that’s for sure. I’d go up and see if I recognize anything, but I don’t want to risk that. So I’ll try using good old foot work, and communication. I was a SHIELD agent for a long time, this should be a piece of cake.

THIRD PERSON:
"Mommy?" A small voice called up to Carol as she stood watching the crowd. She had come to the call of a bomb threat, but had been just a bit late as some other members of the Avengers had taken care of the bomb. But the crowd, well it wasn't all quiet. The people were rushing about panicked. This was pretty typical for a bomb threat. However the small child rubbing at her tearing eyes and staring up at Carol with a small teddy bear clutched in one hand was just too much.

"I'm sorry sweetie did you get lost?" Carol, as Ms. Marvel wasn't known to be good with children, so when she leaned down to pick the small girl up a few camera flashes went off. She smiled, score for good publicity.

The small girl nodded her head before laying it down on Carol's shoulder and sniffling. Carol cooed at the girl before taking flight slightly to look over the crowd's heads. The little girl's tears dried almost instantly as a look of awe and glee spread on her face.

"Mommy?" The little girl was reached towards another woman who looked to be franticly searching and calling out a name Carol couldn't hear. Carol flew towards the woman and landed in front of her, the small girl in her arms launched into the woman's outstretched hands.

"Oh my little Carol, I thought I had lost you!" The woman kissed her child as Carol looked on. The girl's name was Carol? That was interesting. The woman looked up to Carol with a watery smile and grasped her hand shaking it. "Thank you so much Ms. Marvel! I don't know what I would have done if I had lost my little Carol." The woman looked down at the girl and kissed her forehead as the girl giggled and hugged her mother's neck.

"It's no problem at all and no need to thank me." Carol bent down to the girl and smiled brightly at her. "Carol is one beautiful name, and it goes so well with such a beautiful and brave little girl." She patted the girl’s head gently before waving with one hand and taking to the air. The little girl called after her making her smile brightly.

"Bye Bye Ms. Mar-velly." Carol was glad she had come to help today; her day had just become a bit brighter.

This, she thought as she flew back towards the main crowd, is why I became a Super Hero.

SECOND 1ST PERSON:
I’ve never really thought about what death would feel like. I always assumed I’d die in battle, well no. That’s not true. I pretty much bet that I’d be killed doing something completely stupid. I’d mess up, and the next moment, they’d have to bury me. In this line of work, that’s normally how we go out. It’s never old age though. Oh no, we don’t get that luxury. If we do get up there in age, one of our “villains” strikes us down. Or the world decides that it’s time to be in crisis and we jump to help. Oh course, when we jump in, it’s normally to die in the name of justice.

Funny, I never pictured myself dying like this. Out of all the ways I could have died, all the times that I should have died. This is the one that finally gets me. Win one for, well I guess fate. Or whoever’s pulling my strings.

One good thing has come of all this though. I can feel again. Honest to god, emotions. It’s been so damn long, I’ve forgotten what they’re really like. I can remember my father flipping out over me joining the Air Force, and how upset I was. I can remember the bubbling, almost boiling, feeling of pain or maybe it was rage, in the pit of my stomach. Then there was that pain right behind my eyes, the sign that at any moment, I’d just start balling my eyes out. I can remember what it felt like to join the Avengers for the first time, the acceptance and friendship. The absolute joy while I experience my first solo flight, in a plane and without one. It’s, fantastic. No. That doesn’t fit quite right. I can’t describe this, and that’s really saying something.

It’s like that sigh of relief you feel after you’ve landed back on the ground after jumping from a plane. While you’re doing it, your heart was beating wildly and you couldn’t catch your breath. But the feel of the land beneath you, when the adrenaline finally lets you rest, and all that’s left is that single thought. You just did something really stupid, and you’ve survived without a scratch. I don’t want to give up this feeling, and you know what? I don’t have too.

My name is Carol Danvers; I was a Captain in the United States Air Force. I was a writer and editor of WOMEN magazine. I’ve worked for the Department of Homeland Security. I’m a superhero. I am Ms. Marvel. And most importantly, I’m whole again!

THIRD 1st PERSON SAMPLE:
[Accidental voice post]
You’ve got to be kidding me! A girl can’t even die in peace around here!

And you! You think I’m going to just fall back into line after everything that happened? Like hell! I don’t care if you’re freaking Iron Man, or Tony goddamn Stark. I am not going to be told what to do anymore! You can take your little tags, and shove them --
