This morning, in between taking the cats to the vet and stopping by my old work, I went on an informational interview at a design firm in St. Paul. It's kinda like when you go out with that other guy just to make sure your boyfriend's who you want to be with, ya know? It went fine, but I left with the feeling that I had been rushed or had missed my chance to ask the question I hadn't prepared. I suppose I could have been better prepared. It was still good to get a fresh opinion on my portfolio, which was probably the most critical, or at least blunt, that I've gotten - and that's great. The principal with whom I met also told me that the best advice she ever got was to move around a lot while one is young. Not something I wanted to hear, since I am about to commit to this other job, but makes sense. When I first heard that NY magazine designers move around at the rate of 8-months per magazine, I was fully abhored. Guess it's not so different for other kinds of designers in other areas.
Maddie and I are solidifying plans for a Drake visit on the 11-13. The excitement builds the more I think about it. I am likely to need to make a list because I am trying to get in touch with so many people and get to so many things. I could probably spend a week there if I wanted. As Mallory and I were agreeing a few weeks ago - we'd gladly go to Hubbell right now if we could. But no, more importantly I just want to see and catch up with everyone. Mike Harris has offered us his apartment to crash; Brigid's looking into getting time off to hang out, for which Brian might come in to town from Iowa City for; there's all sorts of cultural events going down...I just need someone to tell me about a party if it happens. Haha.
Speaking of Drake, the new
Drake Mag Online looks mega sweet. They've totally hiked it up a notch, but what I found most amusing (and only I would notice this) is that the general structure of the site is still identical to how I had structured it last year. And it's an odd feeling to recognize a piece of yourself like that in something you seemingly had nothing to do with. Oh, and thems coolcats dug up
PostSecret. Heh.
Does anyone have a clue about health insurance? I am on the search for some. My mom told me this MinnesotaCare program may be good for me 'cuz it determines eligibility by last year's earnings - which were low for me - but having looked at the form, there is definitely a current-employment section that may do me in. Anyone know of a good plan with the most coverage for the least moolah? Don't we all wish...
