Please add to the list of decimated American towns Lucius North Dakota, formerly population 79, now approximately zero. Like its predecesssors -- Swamp's End, La., Snake's Bend, Texas, and Owl Creek, Wyoming, it appears that some sort of organized terror sweep. Almost the entire population died by gunfire, many execution style. Many in their own homes. That, as the SHIELD agents on site informed me, means that the assailants had time. Apparently, this all happened between the hours of 2 and 3 a.m. Some of the townsfolks managed to escape into the hills. Most of them so far have been found shot, some even left suspended from rocks.
Like the other towns we've found in this state, their extreme isolation kept immediate word from spreading to state or even county authorities.
I don't know how much longer we can keep people from talking about this. The Daily Bugle has already seen connections, and started editorializing. People are beginning to talk.
So let me make this clear: trained killers are descending on American backwaters and murdering every last man, woman and child that they can find. The few survivors we've found have been almost no help whatsoever - their stories don't jibe with each other. Often, the contradict themselves within moments.
The only other connection we've found is anti-mutant graffitti, often in places such as churches. We don't know if mutants are involved with this at all, but the rumor that they are is starting to spead.
I know I've resisted calling in the Avengers, and I'm still wary, but I concede, I'm out of ideas.
