"No more."
That had been Jubilee mantra over the past week, as she took the rough costume sketch that she had scribbled down on the back of a receipt and painstakingly made it a reality. Cobbling together bits of unused X-Uniforms and whatever accessories she could score off of eBay, Jubilee set about becoming Wondra.
Jubilee had been the witness of many deaths throughout her life. First her parents were killed when she was still young by a pair of hitmen. Then she had the joy of watching several of her friends get killed in the line of duty (and then mysteriously come back.) But her final breaking point had happened only recently as she watched an innocent mutant teenager get blown to bits for being different.
"No more."
She had come a long way from the orphan hiding out at the Hollywood Mall. She had trained with the best and fought to maintain a dream of equality. But sometimes, fighting for equality just isn't enough and learning to survive isn't the same as learning to protect. She hadn't been able to save her parents, or her friends or even that kid.
But that was going to change.
The suit was a little restrictive, but it was a necessary evil. She hadn't exactly asked Xavier or Madrox if it was okay to go out and start patrolling the streets and if they didn't know it was her, they wouldn't have to tell her to stop. The same thing for the name Wondra. It was a little cornball, but when your codename and your nickname are one in the same, you have to make changes to maintain anonymity.
So here she was, perched on a rooftop, freezing her butt off at three in the morning, her ears perked up for the sound of sirens or jewelry store burglar alarms.
"How does Spider-Man do this?" she asked no one in particular. "Does he like, bring his Nintendo DS with him or something? This is so boring. Where are the bad guys!?"
