X-Men X-Mas Shopping

Cyclops was still leery about letting anyone out of the Institute with the Purifiers still out there, but he knew he had a riot on his hands if he didn't give everyone a chance to get out and breathe. As such, he arranged for a trip into the city, a chance for everyone to get out, go Christmas shopping, take in the sights, and stretch their legs a ( Read more... )

Laura didn't shop, or celebrate Christmas, or do the group thing. So as soon as they were in the city, she slipped away from her group and set out on her own. First stop was for a few hot dogs.

She wasn't the only one with food on her mind, therefore she might find an uninvited temporary tag-a-long some paces behind her. Not like anyone could miss Santo's girth really. Or the loud voice piping up after Laura.

"Oi! Claws? Wanna do me a favor and sniff out some prime frankfurter or pretzel stand?" One needed food for the machine before taking full advantage of this bit of freedom from the school. Even if this one might stab me for asking. He's not sure about this girl, though that could be because he's barely even acknowledged her at school.

Laura stopped and turned to face the person speaking to her. She had seen him around the mansion, but had never talked to him.

"My name's Laura. There's a hot dog stand on the next corner."

Name noted and happily ignored. "Yeah, McGruff, but is it gonna kill me in the backend later? You know the crap they put in those things, yeah? Not to mention the sicko vendors occasionally making happy in the condiments."

Shopping for the five Cuckoos sisters was always an interesting affair. They were always in constant contact with each other. It made Christmas shopping for themselves almost impossible, but they tried anyway.

Outside of their family and Julian, they weren't buying gifts for anyone else.

Sophie was presently flipping through sheet music, trying to quietly check Mindee's memories to see what she had or didn't have. Keeping secrets was all but impossible among the quints, but Sophie had the greatest success with it.

Celeste was, to the best of her ability, blocking out and filtering out her siblings. She was in a book store. Celeste was cold about a lot of things, and indeed her face always had the least expression of all her siblings, but she did enjoy books.

As such she was trying to pick out ones for each of her sisters, her parents, her other siblings and their friend.

She gave a game related book a disdainful look as she looked for something for Phoebe.

Esme didn't care much for shopping on her own. But Esme didn't care much for anything most days. Right now she was taking a break. One thing she did have an eye for was jewelry and had been looking for different pieces. Right now, she was taking a break with a drink, a strawberry smoothie from an Orange Julius stand.

Keeping images of gifts out of her mind, she was instead focused on what to get their father. A new tie, she was thinking. She always did that, and he always liked it. It wasn't like their parents could hide things from them, after all.

Logan decided to hang around at a coffee shop in the middle of the students' prime shopping territory. He had no one to buy for that couldn't be handled with a couple of phone calls. Booze didn't require you select it personally if you knew what they liked or what cigars they smoked religiously.

He was just back up, muscle and security, all rolled into one grumpy package.

Christmas. Who needed it?

Not she, but Ororo always appreciates this holiday that seems to influence people to act a little kinder to family, friends, and strangers, even if just a little bit. Plus the snow.

She grins behind her cup of hot chocolate as she spies Logan looking utterly gruff and unapproachable, approaching him anyway in her typical way.

"Well. I would wager that you'd prefer to have remained behind at the mansion, off by your lonesome, or corraling Piotr and Kurt into some... bar adventure, when not dealing with something much more serious. Or has everything changed since I've been gone these several months?" It's a half-rhetorical question.

"I hear you went and picked up your own title of Big Brother, for instance?"

"No power on earth is gonna make me go shoppin' with a group of kids," he grumbled. "They're all around here. I'll know if somebody starts trouble, an' it won't be the little sister. She knows better."

He patted the seat next to him. "How ya been, darlin'?"

"That is what I would prefer to think about all of the students, but 'knowing better' often contradicts and then caves under hormonal bouts of teenage idiocy. But I understand your little sister is not like the rest."

She settles in the offered seat. "Going walkabout in Africa was good for me. Started out in Egypt and found myself ending up in Wakanda. An email from Rockslide wanting to know if the students could turn my greenhouse at the mansion into a staging area for a mud-pit wrestling tournament is merely what prompted my sudden return," completely joking about the latter.
