One of him and Robbie. One of his mom and dad. He stares at them for a long while, his gloved thumb brushing their faces.
Then there's the one he needs to see. The one of her that he still keeps. A little strip of pictures they got in a booth at Coney Island, where she was wearing that hat to cover her ears. There's them making faces in one, her kissing his cheek in another, and the last in the strip has them making out because they could barely keep their hands off each other by the end of the night.
The one that's his favorite is the one before last, where he's kissing her temple, and she just has this beautiful, bright smile on her face...
"Nita..."
The Wave wouldn't stop. Who knows how far it'd gotten already. With how fast it moved, it may have already hit the Skrull Empire. It would take Earth, reduce it to this, dead and cold.
The Wave wouldn't stop.
Eventually, it would take Earth, and destroy his home, his family, his friends, and it would destroy her. It would destroy the girl he still loved. She would die fighting the monsters just like the rest of the Corps. She would die brave and defiant, but she would still die.
He was not gonna let that happen.
But he had to do this smart. There was no way one man could stop all this, not even one powered by the Nova Force. They needed an army. They needed as many people as they could. He sure as hell didn't know how to put an army together or get one to do what he needed, but he had to try.
And there were other worlds besides Earth, that needed to be saved, that needed to be spared Xandar's fate.
In many ways, when he'd left Earth, he'd still been a boy. Even at twenty-six years old. Worldmind gave him his silence, let him pull himself together, and it was a man that pocketed those pictures again, briefly lifted his helmet to wipe his face before adjusting it again, stood up, and asked:
"Is there anyway to torch what's left in this system? Something we can overload? They killed Xandar, but before we head to the next system, I want a way to cripple what's left here if we can. That's still less bugs to return to the main force."
