Blink skimmed the headlines of a newspaper that had been lying around and frowned.
The paper was hailing the election of the first black president of the United States while at the same time she saw repeated uses of the phrase “mutant menace” from the front to back pages.
So the
random attack she’d interrupted when she first arrived hadn’t been so random after all.
Blink folded up the newspaper and set it down where she had found it. There wasn’t any more information to gather from it and with her purple skin shouting “Hi! I’m a mutant!” she was a sitting duck if she stayed out here.
The way she saw it she had several options and the best bet was to see if Xavier’s was a mutant haven in this world. If they were peace loving and zen that’d work. And if they were gung ho humanity must die, well at least she could play the part to spend a night there, find out who the good guys were, and then sneak out. And if neither of those options panned out she could go back to living in the wild, evading sentinels. But she really liked the possibility of sleeping in an actual bed.
Three hours later…
“Don’t you people know when to quit?” Blink punched the mutant hating bigot in the face and blinked away while the bigot’s friend lunged to pull Clarice away. Now perched on the roof of a nearby small building, Blink watched as the attackers collided and fell over. “This got old the second time around.”
Another three hours later…
Four fights and several cuts and bruises later, Clarice Ferguson finally arrived at Xavier’s Mansion.
“I hate this world so much…” Blink grumbled and looked through the gates.
Nice lawn.
“Hey!” She cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled. “Can someone let me in?” She’d blinked too many times in one day to risk even a short jump. Not to mention the risks of getting fried by security.
