Captain America did not vote today.
It is true that it is not merely a right, but a duty to vote. It is indisputable that this election is important... just as any election is. It is a fact that many people have died fighting to protect this right, privilege, and duty to vote -- for America to remain a democracy requires both people willing to protect it, and for people willing to exercise the that duty of voting.
In some places in the country, there are lines stretching hundreds of yards; people waiting hours to exercise that right. Some are turned off from these lines, and refuse to vote as a result. Some simply cannot afford to take the time to wait. Others cannot be dissuaded from voting, no matter what -- they are so enthused to take part this year.
In some parts of New York, the lines are taking over an hour to get through. But people take the time to do so.
Captain America did not.
Captain America cannot represent a single political party. Captain America represents all that is good in this nation -- to represent or vote for a single party would be to represent only a portion of the country. On all sides of any election, there are good people and good ideas, as well as bad people and bad ideas. Captain America cannot stand with one at the expense of others. He represents all people from all parts of the country -- minorities and majorities; Democrat, Republican, third party, and independent; conservative and liberal; religious, agnostic, and atheist; rural and urban. Captain America represents all of them.
So Captain America did not vote today.
But Steve Rogers was there when the polls opened, voted first thing, and is volunteering at the polling station all day today.
