She clung to the side of the Chrysler Building, the cool New York night hair filling her nostrils and lungs with the scent of exhaust from taxis and buses, the delicious scent of pizza and hot dogs from street side vendors, and the slightest tang of salt from the ocean. Spider-Woman breathed it all in before she pushed herself off of the building, gliding effortlessly through the night as the city twinkled and sparkled below her. There were days where Jessica considered moving back to San Francisco, but on nights like this, when the city was so vibrant and full of life, when the city didn't seem to be as full of crime as it usually was that Jessica Drew realized that maybe, just maybe, staying in New York wasn't such a bad idea.
Besides, she was closer to everything major that way, including SHIELD's Helicarrier, should they ever need her for anything.
You know, as long as she wasn't infiltrating HYDRA or AIM again.
She landed on top of the Daily Bugle, taking a breather and surveying the city below her. She wasn't on patrol, really. That was more Ms. Marvel's thing. In all honesty, she'd just wanted to fly. But, she figured, might as well keep an eye on the city while she did that. She took off again, enjoying the light pulsing feel of the wind currents beneath her. It was one of those few times in life where she felt calm. Peaceful. Happy.
Mainly because otherwise, I'm pretty much lost and confused, she admitted to herself. And it was true. Lately, Jessica felt that their hadn't been much for her to offer. New York was teeming with heroes, SHIELD was teeming with agents, and she just wasn't too fond of Madripoor anymore so she wasn't about to go back there and reopen her private detective agency.
Hell, that wasn't something that Jessica was doing here either. That corner of the market was already pretty well taken over, what with names like Black Cat and Blonde Phantom already knee deep in cases.
She sighed.
Really, what's a girl to do?
