When Captain America returned in the modern era, he eventually received a great deal of back pay from the US Government -- he was considered to be held hostage for 50 years as far as army pay was concerned. But Steve Rogers didn't need the money... so he utilized it for a good many other purposes

She smiles up at Danny as he comes in.

"Oh, no, come on in. I'm waiting to hear back from the Avengers soon... I don't imagine their battle with the Mad Thinker's latest giant robot will last long. And otherwise, it's been a quiet day."

She gestures to the chair next to her. "You look bored. Come in, and I'll give you a turn on the systems."

She smiles at him.

"Anya has something with her father?" she asks. She slides her headset off and hands it over to Danny.

[avengerstaff]

"I imagine so." She smiles with a hint of laughter. "She's such a nice young woman. You two are quite cute together." A strange look passes across Peggy's face for a moment, and then vanishes.

"Anyhow... I know I've shown you the basics of how to receive incoming transmissions. Let me show you now how to patch..." She pauses another moment, and looks concerned. "...how to patch one transmission into..." Another pause. "...into another..."

And then she turns and rushes for the garbage can, barely making it to it before she heaves loudly into the bin.

She looks up at Danny, her skin almost looking green.

"I'm... not feeling so well..." She wipes at her mouth. "Keep an eye on the monitor, Danny... I need to get Jarvis..."

She runs out the door, leaving Danny alone in the coms station.

She's only gone about a minute when a com light starts flashing.

"INCOMING MESSAGE FROM CAPTAIN AMERICA HOTLINE:" a computerized voice states.

Then another voice comes on over the line, obviously recorded.

"...um... hi. Captain America? I work at Fox Oil Company, in Rockport, Texas... and... um... this is going to sound crazy... but there was a fish-monster attacking one of our rigs last night. Put the boss's wife in a coma. Blew up the boss's copter and killed a few people, too. The employees are all scared, Mr. Captain America. But I thought maybe you could help? Please?"

The message ends.

Before he can place a call, his cell phone gets a text.

"Master Danny?" a voice calls before her reply can come. Jarvis steps in. "Thank you for watching the coms while Peggy stepped away. I'll be filling in for a bit."
