Fury said SHIELD would be able help with the identification card, driver’s license and living status. She’d have to take care of housing, but she could always bunk on the Helicarrier until she found an apartment. With a place to live came furniture shopping, hell she’d even have to go clothes shopping unless she wanted to live in SHIELD uniforms.

"I..." He stops, and suddenly all his walls are down. All his shields.

"I've missed you so much."

"I've...I've missed you too." Awkward and difficult didn't even begin to describe it. She wanted nothing more than to wrap her arms around him and kiss him, but...there were complications. Girlfriend complications.

"You look well." Small talk. It was best to stick to small talk.

He stops again, unsure what to say next.

"I won't ever stop caring for you, Sharon. Loving you. And when you died, it was unbearable." He steps forward. "But I had to move on. As painful as it was, I had to."

"I understand, Steve. I don't blame you for moving on. I was dead and it wasn't like you could just wait for me to come back."

"I... wanted to. I never was looking for the relationships I've had since you died."

He looks at her sadly.

"I... understand if you don't want to see me. And the last thing I want to suggest is that we just be friends..."

She looked away for a long moment before looking back at him. "I want to still be friends, Steve, but it will take some time. I need some time. It's been years for you. To me it seems like yesterday."

He nods.

"You... have as much time as you need." He steps back towards the door. "The fact that you're still alive again? That's enough for me for now. And when you're ready to be my friend again... just give me a call."

He stops at the door and gives her a smile.

"I've never stopped loving you, Sharon. And I never will."

And with those words, he turns and is gone.
