Shopping!

May 29, 2008 21:10

It was time to take one of the school vans for this little outing. She almost felt bad, considering the news that was stalking the channels about mutants being stalked by the FBI and more than likely Reverend Stryker. But that's ... she couldn't stop her own life. Or rather it shouldn't stop her from trying to jump start her life again. She checked ( Read more... )

A while later, and they were finally at the mall, finally in one of the shops. Jubilee looked around, happy in her element. It had been too long since she'd been shopping in town.

"So, are you done with your classes for now or what?"

It was good to get outside. Even if the weather was starting to turn into summer. Summer was nice, but not the heat. She was quite thankful to get inside. Oh, her family would laugh at her adjustment to AC.

"Well, the tests were for me to avoid all the general education courses so I can go to my advance classes at leisure for the next couple of years." Paige replied.

"Oh. Right. But you're done for the summer? What're you going for, anyway?" That was two of them now, going to college. Almost enough to make Jubilee wonder if she ought to go too.

Nah, school wasn't very Jubilee-friendly.

"English, actually." She could have her degree in almost anything. But for now she decided to keep the focus on literature. Hopefully their would be enough books on tape for her to keep up with missions and her classes. A stupid reason, Paige supposed, but she did enjoy English. "After that, who knows? But I do want to get a degree. Sam was supposed to but... this stuff came up. But you know that story. And yeah, I'm done for the summer."

"Yeah, good luck with that. Envy you I completely don't." Working as a school counselor and that new X-Factor thing were bad enough. Plus the other stuff that had been happening lately.

"Well, they're going to need a teacher at the school who actually knows a subject besides Dr. McCoy. Maybe something in education, too." That was the nice thing, she supposed, about Private Schools. She stopped by a dress and checked the tag.

"I guess, though it's not like they made me take any classes. They're perfectly happy with an unedumicated advisor person." Ooh, this shirt was cute. Pink was always a good color.

"Jubilation Lee. You might not be teaching academics, but you're a perfect example of an X-Men." Paige smiled over to Jubilee. "They need someone like you. They don't need someone like Bobby trying to teach... or his class room persona completely different?"

"No idea, I try to avoid his classroom. But doesn't he have some sort of degree? In something? It might not be a complete disaster zone." She shrugged. "Most of the time, my job's easy. Half of them want to be X-men anyway so I don't even have to give them college pamphlets."

"Accounting or math or something." Paige dismissed with a flick of her hand. "That's thing, Miss Lee, they know their subject area but they really don't know how to each. As much as I... don't care for her ... Miss Frost knew how to teach." Ooooh, cute shoes! She needed more!

"They're still raising kids to be X-men, is the problem. I mean, how many go through the Institute and escape spandex? Seriously? Not this group, I mean the ones before." Paige knew that sort of thing.

Shoes? Poo. These earrings were much more better.

Shoes and chocolate were God's gift to women, Lee! "Exactly. I was in school for 15 years to learn how to graduate and go to college. It didn't much affect me. These kids need goals other than being super heroes." It was becoming a case of do as I say and not what I do with Paige, but she knew her younger brother didn't want to be a hero.

"It's so much worse for the younger ones, too. I mean, I love the life, y'know? But it's not like after I joined, I was ever going to do anything else. Not realistically." Before all the explosions and weird things, she'd had very different plans; gymnastics, for one thing. She didn't regret her decisions, usually, but it would have been nice to have encouragement in one of those directions.

"At least when they're older they've got more stuff going for them."

"Exactly." Paige's fingers lingered over the clothing for long moments and she closed her eyes and shook her head. "I guess that's something we're gonna have to do when we get older. Make sure there's enough going for both paths."

"And you've... I can't think of anyone better for the 'hero' path of teaching the kids."

Jubilee nearly laughed, shaking her head. "I'm not even active right now. Not technically. And you're not exactly doing bad either at the whole 'hero' thing."

"But thanks. I was born to be an X-men poster-child. It's my destiny!" She posed 'heroically,' and then doubled over giggling.
