The Professor looks faintly embarrased to be here, largely because he figures that the Gunthries rightly blame him for getting their house burnt down. So many people he's promised to protect have fallen because of his ineptitude...
...also, well, pie. Still, largely, the Professor figures the head of the Gunthire clan needs some good natured venting, and so leans against the wall, idly scritching Annie, his yellow tabby cat, 's chin and waiting for one of the horde of Gunthries to be freed up.

"...I'll try a slice of pecan, if it is not too much trouble." Savier says, looking a bit confused in spite of it all. "Are you all moderately comfortable here? I know things are a bit cramped..."

That piece of pecan was a large piece. Either she had no problems with him, or was hoping it was so big that he'd choke on it.
"We're a little used to cramped," she said, "And I can't complain; it was mighty generous of you to let us stay until we're on our feet. Which'll be soon, actually. Got a buyer for the land, a nice little apartment picked out for us to live in 'til the new house is built, been shopping for contractors, and as soon as the insurance comes in, we should be on our way."

The Professor smiles, though, graciously taking the pie. "Thank you." He takes a bite, and...mmm! "Wonderful!" He quickly sobers, however; "...I'm sorry. I wish there was more we could do."

"Professor," she said. "You've helped raise up two of my children into being heroes, your school saved my one boy from himself, has given my other children a place for them to be themselves and unashamed, and if you hadn't come..."
A deep breath.
"We've got land, plans for a new farm, the money's comin' in to rebuild--even if it's a hassle--and soon, a nice place to stay in the meantime. We'll be fine. You've done plenty. More than enough. More than I can ever repay, and I must tell you, that grates on my pride somethin' terrible that I won't ever be able to pay such a kindness back."
